Reflections for Trooper Frank Galvan Vazquez

A song I heard today

"Eulogy" by The Flatliners

The sun shows no mercy this morning
I'm staring thin-eyed as the rolling ground comes to a halt
A heart once close has stopped beating
But its memory lives forever
And your blurry eyes will make some sense of this

You will always be remembered
You will be celebrated
You will never be forgotten
These tears still haven't faded

I feel I'm awake today with this memory that was once misplaced
And I never thought I'd live to see this overpouring sadness
Our eyes wide, receptive
A family without a face learns that hands around them will help give direction
and our mourning hearts will skip a beat at every single mention
You will not be forgotten
And we will sing

You're not lost, you're not lost
You're watching over us
You're not lost, you're not lost
Oh just listen to these words we're screaming out
Oh god, it's gotten so loud now
You're not lost, you're not lost

You will never be forgotten
You will never be forgotten
You will always be remembered
You will be celebrated

Its been six years now to the day and i just wanted to say i have been here 4 of them and just wanted to let u know that your wife is a very very special lady she has 3 great kids Christian, Kyra and Noah as you know that. They are growing up so fast now like they are weeds and all you have to do is water them.

Krissy you are amazing woman for doing what u do day in and day out 3 kids 3 dogs and a husband and you are keep yourself so busy and still have time to honor Frank. He would be so proud of how the kids are doing in sports, school and in everyday things.

Christian is such a smart little fella well he does like to be called little anymore so we will leave it at that, he loves his baseball, hockey and football, he is probably a mock of you Frank. You did a great job

Kyra is the little princess who is the centre of attention and love to be all dressy and the dancing machine. She love hip hop, ballet and ice skating she can really fly and spin around out there. I know she would love for u to see here dance or skate you would be so proud of your little princess.

Now the baby Noah well hes now a baby anymore hes 7 and loves love everyday he had the go go attitude probably got that from you Frank. He just started baseball and is starting to like it he is in skating maybe ice hockey we dont know yet. he is doing so much better at his new school you would be proud of him

Well i just wanted to say everyone here is doing an amazing job and i know they all MISS YOU ALOT, they talk about you alot and i know they wish you could be here and see them and make you proud as their FATHER/DAD/Wife. Im sorry this happened to a great man and cant get to enjoy his family he start

My thoughts are with all of your loved ones on this 6th anniversary of your EOW. I know their daily pain and struggle without you here to share your love with them. Continue to keep watch over all of your loved ones and those still out on patrol. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten.

As your 6th EOW approaches we continue to remember you and
your family. God bless all of you! Krissy you have done a wonderful job with everything in you and the childrens life since Franks senseless death. I think its wonderful how you have kept Franks memory alive for them and how you have handled getting remarried and still allowing those beautiful children to have a part of Frank with them all the time. I wanted to mention that I also think Tod is a very special man.

I attended the Ohio State Highway Patrol's memorial service for the first time this past May and was moved by the dedication the Patrol has for remembering it's fallen officers. I was also greatly moved by the number of family members who come back year after year to honor their loved ones...some who have died over 50 years ago.

My boyfriend is a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. I have always been proud of his job and his affiliation with the Patrol, but am even more so after attending the service. People always use the "words" "you will never be forgotten. The family of OSHP live by those words.

Last night after I wrote that reflection, I checked on Kyra and she was having trouble sleeping, so I layed down with her for awhile. We started talking about things, and she started asking me questions about you. She wanted to know why you shaved your head. She said "I've seen his football pictures, I know he had hair!" She asked "What did he sound like?" We are going to watch some of the video tapes this week. She wishes she could know you. She's wiser than her years. I joke that she thinks shes 16, but honestly she is an old soul. As happy as everything can possibly be, there are always those moments, like when she asked me last night "Why did God let this happen?" and I don't have an answer-those moments hurt. But I'm glad that she was asking the questions.

I just want to do a little update on the kids. They started a new school this year, and they are loving it. Noah's getting 100% on his tests and Kyra and Christian are also doing so great. Christian is learning to play the electric drums, Kyra is in the choir, and they are all making lots of friends and just thriving-its a great feeling. As for sports and activities, Kyra is in hip hop dance and ballet, and figure skating lessons, and girl scouts. Christian is in baseball, and taking a pitching clinic right now, and is taking a hockey clinic. Noah is also still taking skating lessons and wants to start the hockey stuff too. He starts a baseball league next month. Busy! But its great- I love it and my heart and life are so fulfilled right now. I'm even taking ballet and jazz dance classes, which are so much fun. I take body pump and pilates at the gym and I try to stay really physically active. Life has come full circle. I read a quote awhile ago (do I always write a quote on here?) that said something like "Whatever you water the most in your life is what will flower." Something like that.

We love you and talk about you every single day, more than once, usually-so many stories that I can use to share who you were and while teaching the kids "life lessons". I even started taking them to church. I even got Todd to go, and believe me, that wasn't easy! He's doing great and has his own business which is going well.

I was watching the kids play a game called "Brain Age Academy" on the Wii this evening. Noah was kicking you-know- what on one of the tests, and when he got a good score, he started to dance. I swear, he was doing the freaking RUNNING MAN dance from the 90s, he starting doing all these moves-it was hilarious and it was ALL YOU!

Christian's bday party is coming up-he wants to go to Ft. Rapids so that will be a blast-we are spending the night. And we are going with your dad and my mom and Carrie and Joey and Brandee and John to Hocking Hills for Thanksgiving...so excited! We rented a cabin-its going to be a blast.

Well, my update got a little longer than usual. Thanks for the positive support that is always present in our lives. That smile that lit up a room is still here, we feel it always.

Frankie grew up with my two boys, Dan and R.J., in Defiance, Ohio. They went to the same grade school and high school together and remained freinds for years after. I was assigned to do Frank's background investigation and to say the least, it was one ofthe more easy ones to do. Did find out that Frank and a few of his freinds were "busted" for trespassing for jumping into a neighbor's pool without permission.
when he graduated from the academy he was assigned to the Defiance Post and I was one of his supervisors. Frank was never without a smile and always treated the public with the respect. He was one of the most aggresive troopers at the post and always gave 110%. He was agreat father and from what I know a great husband.
My wife and I were freinds with Frank's mother and father.
Whenever we were at their house, Frank treated them with a lot of respect and honor.
Had I known this site was here, I would have reflected a long time ago. There is probably a week that doesn't go by that I don't think or talk about Frank Vasquez Jr.
He was one "kid" that really made an impression on me because he fought hard for what he wanted and what he believed in.
I am proud to have known Frankie and the OSHP is proud to have had him served. I know he is in heaven watching over his fellow troopers and maybe has moved one or two out of harms way.
Col. Robert Chairamonte, my first superintendant one told our class that God must wear black and grey because he watches over the OSP troopers. He took one of the best to be his helper. God Bless Frankie Vasquez.

missed you in DC, Krissy. things have gone downhill. :(

To Officer Vazquez family and friends my heart and prayers go out to you;

I didn’t know Frank all that well; however he and I were fellow classmates @ Defiance Senior High School in Defiance along with Brandon Cruz. We were in the same grade.

What little I knew of Frank was seeing him in the halls, classes and lunch. I have always been a pretty good judge of character when I meet people; and I have always felt that Frank was a great man to know. It saddens me that I never got to know him better and became one of his friends. Even though he and I didn’t know each other that well, I still feel as if I had lost a dear close friend.

When we lost Frank I was at that time a commercial truck driver. I used to be on a route that took me down near 270 Columbus area where he used to patrol the roads. I remember one evening coming back from my drop off; I had seen where the state had placed a memorial sign on the hwy. In remembrance of Frank. When I had seen that sign I had to pull off the road to pay my respects.

I now live in Virginia and when I head home to visit family and friends I take 23 N. back into Ohio. Every time I get close to 270 Columbus area and I encounter the memorial I pull off and pay my respects to Frank. There is hardly a week goes by I don’t think about Frank and all the wonderful things he has done for the community while he was a state trooper.

I have just spent the last hour reading all the wonderful reflections on this site that everyone has been leaving. Frank sure did have lots of friends that cared & loved him.

Frank - Although I didn’t know you on a personal level, my heart broke when I heard about your untimely passing. An still aches when I think of you. You did not die in vain.

I salute you for your service and honor you for your sacrifice.

Rest in peace my friend;

Respectfully;

Krissy your words are beautiful, you express very well and the love you still have for Frank is beautiful, you are a
true angel here on earth and I think that you have been blessed above and beyond with those wonderful kids and a wonderful husband who lets Frank live on within your heart.
2001 seemed so long ago, but time has only eased the pain not the love. May you enjoy your children and Todd for a long time to come and be happy!!!!! you are thought about always and forever.

I'm sure you see how Christian runs just like you, how he loves purely and without apologies like you did...how Noah dances out of nowhere just like you did, is a prankster like you....how Kyra has your confidence and how everyone wants to be her friend, just like you.....

They are the best part of my life....they are still doing great in school, are all advancing in taekwondo (sparring now), skating lessons (for hockey for the boys...Christian zips around the ice like a natural...he's so fast. Kyra wants to learn how to figure skate.) Kyra takes ballet as well and the boys have been getting interested in baseball. Kyra writes songs, stories, and loves to draw. Noah is obsessed with dragons and draws them, he also likes to talk A LOT, and dance, like I said before. He's definitely got your moves. Christian is a pure soul and has a true heart of gold, he loves to read and go exploring. They are all happy kids that usually have big smiles on their faces and their laughter is constant. They all have soft spots for animals and babies, and they look out for each other.

Yes, they keep us mighty busy here and I love it. They even keep their rooms clean. They love to go hiking, to the park, and out for ice cream...I'm so happy they are experiencing a simple, happy, memorable childhood...

Things here are good, I was feeling a little sad the other night, when Christian told us good night and Todd was sleeping and he said "I love you, Goodnight" to Todd...it was just so sweet and his personality so like yours, that it touched me.

Every reflection I write on here feels as though it is either incomplete or too personal, and I end up not posting it, but I do have many saved on my computer. I believe one should live their life in the present, but I also believe that your past is what makes you...you have helped me to become the person I am today, and for this I again thank you. You were an inspiration when I was married to you, and you still are, not just for being a trooper but for the person that you were from day one. I always wanted to be like you, I don't know if you knew that, but I did. Miss ya Q Ball.

March 28, 2007

god bless you always.

Frankie. What can you say about this guy? So many things...I remember so much about him that its hard to just tell one. I was with him alot when I was younger because I thought he was the coolest guy in the world. He was one of the funniest cousins I've ever had and even though he picked on me all the time I still loved him. He had all sorts of nicknames for me that I would yell at him for. Frankie, in my eyes, was the best patrolman out there. He gave it all in his job and he worked so hard.I haven't forgot about you Frankie. I remember everything about the week you left us. It was such a hard time for not just me but the entire family. I love you so much and I wish you were still here and I miss you.

Frankie's cousin
