Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sheriff Dwight Calvin Woodrell, Jr.

This is a version of the song God Bless The U.S.A

Pride of COPS Kids Camp Survivor
Lyrics by: Paula Gray and Deb Azure

We have shared so much together
Our happiness and our pain.
We have learned from each other,
And there is still much left to gain.
I thank my lucky stars
To be with you here today.
Cause this camp still stands for unity,
And they can’t take that away.
I’m proud to be a survivor here
Where I can just be me,
And we don’t forget those who died
And gave their life for me;
And I’ll proudly stand up next to you
And remember them today
Cuz there ain’t no doubt we love our Heroes
And remember them today.
From the lakes of Wisconsin
To the hills of Tennessee.
From the plains of Oklahoma;
From sea to shining sea.
From Michigan to Texas;
From New York to LA.
There’s pride in every survivors’ eyes;
That’s why we stand and say.
I’m proud to be a survivor here
Where I can just be me,
And we don’t forget those who died
And gave their life for me;
And I’ll proudly stand up next to you
And remember them today
Cuz there ain’t no doubt we love our Heroes
And remember them today.

Hey I just saw that its been awhile since Ive left a comment or anything so I thought I would just post a poem I read and really liked.
ONE MOMENT

In the whisper of the wind,
I felt God embrace me.
As the voice of a loved one,
I heard God speak to me
Looking in a mirror
I saw God smile at me.
One moment and I knew
That God and I were one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Though your smile is gone forever,
And your hands we cannot touch;
Still we have so many memories
Of the one we loved so much.
Your memory is our keepsake,
With which we will never part.
God has you in His keeping
And we have you in our hearts.
We know you walk beside us,
And when our lives are through,
We pray that God will take our hands
And lead us straight to you
Love ya always
Reading your daughters words brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. I will hug my daughters a little tighter and try to make more time for them. Maybe take them fishing. Rest in peace brother. Watch over the rest of us.
Dwight I was thinking of your smile today, sorry it's been so long since I left you a message. The kids are doing great. I found this poem and it seemed to fit so well, so here goes.
An Angel in the sky must leave his place of rest,
Gently tucking his wings benesth his armores vest.
For duty has called, There is so much work to do little
did he know, This one is dressed in Blue. Arriving on the Scene, he knows just what to say " Follow me, Fallen Brother, I"ll show you the way." "Your Duty has ended, Your work is now through." "Come hang your hat beside mine, I'am a cop, too."
Dwight i Know you did just this for all the officers this year.
My thoughts are with your loved ones during this holiday season. Every day is a tough day for them to get through, but during the holidays it's even harder. I have decorated the outside of my home for Christmas with all blue lights. One of those lights will be lit every night until New Years in your honor as my way of saying that you are a true hero and have not been forgotten. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones. Wrap your wings around them and help them with their grief and protect them from harm.
My thoughts are with your loved ones on this 5th anniversary of your end of watch. I know they think of you every day and will continue to do so. You will never be forgotten by your loved ones nor will the Blue Family ever let that happen. Keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol watching over the Thin Blue Line.
I never had the privelege to meet Sheriff Woodrell, but fortunately I have made a friend in his wife, Karen. Today I learned of the loss that Karen's family has suffered and it weighs on my mind. I wanted to take a moment to leave a message and let the family and friends of Sheriff Woodrell know that my thoughts and prayers are with you each and every one of you.
Today I spoke with Karen and reminded her that God only gives things to us that He knows we can handle. She is an amazing example of that. She has survived the most difficult of tragedies and is a stronger women because of it. She has impressed me as a student and now, even more, as a remarkable women.
May God give you the strength to continue your journey, to teach your children through your amazing example and grant you the gifts you so deserve.
Keep on pushing girl...you are a HUGE success!!!! Your professor admires you!!! :)
Sheriff Woodrell, thank you for your service. By reading your reflections I can tell you were the best Sheriff, father, husband and man that this world could ask for. It's because of men like you the rest of us can live in peace. May God be with your wonderful family as you watch over them from Heaven. Rest in peace Sheriff. You are remembered by many; even some that never knew you.
To the family of Sheriff Woodrell:
It is with utmost sorrow in my heart that I read the story
of this man. I was raised in Pawnee County and lived in Ralston for most of my life. I was just internetting a couple of years ago, looking for anything familiar in the Pawnee County area when I ran across Sheriff Woodrell's story. I was doing the same thing this date and found this website and decided I would leave a note of condolence. I have been working for law enforcement for 12 years here in Paris, AR. and have seen my share of heart ache tied to the job. I am deeply sorry for this loss that was forced on you and I hope the culprits pay for their crime and sin while they do there time. But as we all know there is no punishment great enough that will pay for the loss of a loved one.
dwight, ive finally reached the goal in my life that you were going to help me reach. now i pray that serve half as well as you and the old crew did, after you passed away i became close to a few of those guys, they taught me alot, they were always good to me and i was proud to know each of them, your influence on them never faded away, they honored you until their family was broken up by a new admisitration. ive reached this goal, to be a police officer, because of your encouragement, i never gave up. thank you dwight, for the little bit that you did, of it werent for your words, i would never have made it to this point. brian, i made it brother, im 10-8 now, and you my friend are as responsible as dwight for this, without your advice, and consistant encouragement to me i would have given up long ago. and i thank you both and i cherish the friendship you extended to me during the last 18 months i was in oklahoma. your advice and encouragement means everything to me, thank you. keep the faith my brother, god, phillip and dwight are all watching over us now.
817 control, good morning, i'll be 10-8 south side
