His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

God calls home the angels way too soon sometimes. I read the article on ABC news about the perpetrator of this horrific crime in jail using a blackberry and being on face book and it's quite despicable that they would allow someone serving a prison sentence for murder to enjoy such creature comforts. I hope this brave officer rests in peace--because of the sacrifice of heroes like him the citizens of this country are allowed to enjoy the freedoms we do.

Our daughter turns 16 today! As she celebrates with her wonderful friends, who threw her a suprise party, I'm sitting crying because you are not here to share this with us. She has grown up to be such a beautiful girl and I know you would be so proud of her! Sweet 16, cheers to our beautiful girl.

Dwight,

I knew you as the good kid, the quiet but strong young boy who grew up to protect those who were weaker, or in trouble.

My brother loved working with you. We were always proud to be your friend. We spoke often of you. He called the day they killed you, we shared the deep pain of losing you with the community, your friends, your family. Almost eight years later, the world is still diminished, less without you. You are a hero to many of us.

Final Roll Call
We thought of you with love today
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence
we often speake your name.
Now all we have are memories
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake
With which we'll never part.
God has you in his keeping
We have you in our heart.

It is so touching to read the reflections from your sweet wife and darling children. Sin has taken you from them. The sin Christ died for to purchase for us eternal life. Sheriff Woodrell served proudly and was deeply loved and respected by those who knew him. It is a tragedy to lose him. We never know when our lives on this earth will end, but we can make a reservation in Heaven now and assure us a place when God calls us to Himself. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6) and He PAID the price for our sins on the Cross so we don't have to pay the penalty for our sins. Yipee! If we accept His payment by faith we can have salvation and spend eternity with Him in Heaven. It is not something we must earn, it is a gift. The most precious one we can ever receive. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith_and this not from yourselves, it is the GIFT of God_not by good deeds, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2: 8,9. For without faith, it is impossible to please God. And our faith must be in God's only Son, Jesus Christ.
You were a credit to the uniform, Sheriff Woodrell. My heart goes out to your
loved ones left behind and may the Lord comfort them as only He can. You
surely made your family feel loved. That is a wonderful gift you gave freely.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

My name is Audie Lowe. I am retired Deputy Sheriff from Sacramento California. I served 25 years for the Dept. I am now retired and living in Poteau Oklahoma. In 2002 I looked at property in Pawnee to retire too. This is when I learned about this great man named Dwight Woodrell Jr. Last Thursday A very good friend of mine was shot and killed in Sacramento. He too was a Fine man and a great officer with my old Dept. He also loved his community and his Dept. Leaving a message for my friend I looked up Sheriff Woodrell. I can not put into words. The impact on me by reading all the many notes from His wife and children on here. God Bless This family. My heart goes out to you. You lost a very special man in your life, and we as a country and nation lost a great public servant. I have very few Hero's in My life, but Sheriff Dwight C. Woodrell Jr. is one of them. I never met this man, but I wish I could have.
