R.I.P. Brother, we still remember and appreciate your sacrifice. God be with your family.

Walter better known as Wally to his friends and co-workers was my friend for 14 yrs. We worked together in the 47 pct in the Bronx one night in 1992 shortly after he arrived at the command and became instant and life-long friends. Both of our dreams were to be selected for assignment in the Emergency Service Unit and he was selected in 1998 and I was fortunate to follow shortly thereafter in 1999. I am still fortunate to be in ESU and keep Wally and our other fallen members legacy alive by helping to instill the values and work ethic in our newer members. Wally was my best friend and the type of man I want my son to emulate and my daughter to marry. Love Ray

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Dear Walt:
I am keeping my promise I made to you and all our brothers that gave their all on 11 September 2001, by writing this reflection to you. It is fitting and proper that you receive all the recognition that is possible, for the sacrifice you made.
Today, 7 December 2006, is the 65th anniversary of the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. I feel that this reflection is special to you today, in memory of not only our honored dead at Pearl harbor, but that you share a common denominator with all our miltary personnel who like you, gave their all. You both fell victim to acts of cowardice and terror. Yet, similiarly, you both fought against horrific odds to save others.
And as the attack on Pearl Harbor resulted in a war to free us from terror, so did the attack on 11 September 2001. And the results will be the same: we will not lie down and cower...NEVER. And it is because of the bravery and heroic acts you displayed that fateful day, that Americans are aware of the very real threat posed against our countrymen by these cowardly terrorists. And of the dedication and sacrifice their police are willing to make for them.
There is no greater service to our countrymen here in the homeland, than that of police officer. YOU, proved that. On behalf of all your brother officers who are still here, we remember, and we will ALWAYS remember. Thank you.
May Almighty God hold you close to His heart, and ease the pain your family has had to endure. Rest in peace, your legacy lives on brother. Amen

There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.

You were called into this profession and our Lord and Savior has blessed you because:
According to Romans 13.1-5...
God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because God honors it.

You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for your fellow man, while serving, defending, and protecting others in your community.

Thank you for your service to America. Your efforts saved thousand that horrible day.
My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends. You will be in our hearts forever.

I tried to attend as many funerals as I could during these darkest of days as my way of showing respect to families and coworkers of all of my brother and sister Officers and Firefighters. I cannot find the words to say how sorry I am that we have lost these great heroes. I cannot express my thanks enough for your bravery and sacrifice. All we heard out in California were the numbers lost. I wanted names and got them from The Memorial Wall site. I read your name because of your loving dad and his kilt! I wore your name on a memorial bracelet and had the honor of presenting the bracelet to Dad, during Memorial Week 2002. I now wear one of two of my officers names and
9-11-01, for all those lost and their precious families and co-workers. It also states "Good Shall Prevail". To all who survived, Stay Strong!
In your honor we serve!
