Reflections for Police Officer James Patrick Leahy
On September 11th, 2001, an number of men and women amazed the world with their phenomenal acts of bravery. When other ran away, they charged forward. When others reached out for safety, they offered a helping hand. When others cried out, they responded with a soothing voice. And, tragically, many of them died...but in doing so taught us all how to live.
With their sacrifice they redefined the word “HEROES”

Marcela, James, Danny and John;
Just wanted to let you know your husband and father has not been forgotten. He's thought of often along with the thirteen other firends I lost that day.
When the football season starts this year, I'll be waving a flag for him, cause I know he's helping Rothelisberger out. With a guardian angel like that, we can't help but go on.

Jimmy:
More and more I keep stopping back at this page. It's been almost three and a half years since that date. It's funny, it seems like just yesterday I was down in that little gym in the basement hitting the heavy bag with you during meal, or you were working out on the fly machine, for some reason, that memory sticks in my head the most. I guess a lot of things have happened in three and a half years. Time goes by so quickly. I know your up there watching down on everyone, making sure that everyone who walks threw those doors on W 10th St. walks out at the end of the night.

There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.
You were called into this profession and our Lord and Savior has blessed you because:
According to Romans 13.1-5...
God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because God honors it.
You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for your fellow man, while serving, defending, and protecting others in your community.
Thank you for your service to America. Your efforts saved thousand that horrible day.
My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends. You will be in our hearts forever.

In 2002, and 2003, I rode my bicycle from Indianapolis to Washington DC with the Indiana Police Unity Tour. Our goal the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C.
I find a deep loss in the sacrifice of James Leahy, and all other Police Officers. God is with them, and they are at peace. I continue to pray for the families of Fallen Officers.
I continue to keep James alive in my heart. I could only hope to be as good a Police Officer
as James Leahy had been. To James, and all his family, my family, and I will keep you in our prayers. God Bless, and keep all of you close to his heart.

I have often thought since September 11, 2001, what would I say to the officers and firemen who were lost if I had another chance to talk with them. I had thought it would have to be something amazing or long and drawn out. What would I say to a true hero? After visiting this page the only words I can get through this lump in my throat is " Thank You". Each and every one of you will be in my heart forever! God Bless America!!

To Officer James Leahy and his Family
I went to school with James IS 51 and always shared a common bond with him I to grew up without a Father and the way we lost them was somewhat similar So we always had a friendship and closeness from our losses. James was quiet and smart and always had a simple smile for you and always a nice thing or two to say.I remember his LAUGH . When I heard he was lost in the World trade center tears came to my eyes. The world had lost a wonderful person who throughout his life never let anything get in the way of his dreams. and through all the heartaches and struggles in his life he never lost site of that and I respected that in him and I want his children to know that their dad is one of my heroes and his family to know My heartfelt tears are with you and I pray that James will never be forgotten by all, for I will never forget the way "he touched my life"

It was late one Tuesday evening,
Before a mother could sit down,
To tell her only child about
The terror that hit downtown.
She looked into the eyes of her son
God, she loved him so,
She felt her heart begin to break
And the hurt begin to show.
She gathered all her strength and courage,
as her story she began to tell.
"Baby don't cry, but I'm afraid daddy
Might be under a building that fell."
The boy looked back at his mother,
His eyes made not one blink.
And the mother's tears began to fall.
What would her baby think?
You see, his dad is a Policeman,
And his hero from the day of his birth.
He loved his dad more than anything else
That could ever inherit this earth.
The mother's head began to drop,
Her forehead resting on palm.
She thought her son would be upset.
Instead, he was very calm.
The boy leaned over towards his mom,
And put his hand upon her head.
In her ear he began to whisper,
And this is what he said:
"Mommy please don't cry,
I knew daddy wasn't coming home.
I talked to him just a while ago,
But it wasn't on the phone.
He told me that he loved me,
And he promised we'd meet again.
He told of his new home,
And the job he was to begin."
"God is building an army,
And there are many angels needed.
That, is where daddy and the others went.
They weren't all defeated."
It was then, the mother lifted her head.
The tears streamed down her face.
And she could feel her husband's presence,
As it filled her heart with grace.
It was then she knew her son was right.
He was in God's great army now.
She also knew her son was safe,
That he'd be kept from harm somehow.
So, evildoers of the world beware.
An army is on the way.
Bolstered by new angels,
Who left the towers that day..
Their commander has never been beaten.
His power has never been matched,
And if evil thinks He was almighty before......
Well, the surface has just been scratched!
9-11-02 - 1 year anniversary
We will NEVER forget!
GOD BLESS!

I was given James Mercy Band for Christmas from my parents. Since that day I have not taken it off and I continually pray for his family and the others who lost these brave heroes as well. I have never met James, but I wear his name with pride on my wrist. James was my inspiration through Army Basic Training and he will not be forgotten.

To Mrs. Leahy, a mother who lost her son
Thank you for raising such a fine son. Your courage and strength should be an inspiration to us all. You were a young woman whose husband was brutally taken away and you were forced to face life as a single parent of five children, the eldest of which was only 13.
The fine values you instilled in James were demonstrated every day in his life, not only on September 11. The exceptional father that he was is a tribute to the fine lessons you taught him and the wonderful example you yourself were to him.
Your son thought the world of you - he saw you as a strong woman who was the matriarch of her family, he thought of you as a wonderful involved grandma who never missed a game or a school function or someone who he could always depend on to watch his boys. You were always there for James and the boys (even when it was last minute). He respected the person you are and loved you for all you did - and I know he would want you and everyone to remember that, even after his tragic passing.
So, to the mother who lost her son - take comfort to know that you raised a wonderful human being. As a mother you are a fine example and inspiration to us all - Thank You Mrs. Leahy.

In 1992 I graduated the police academy with Jimmy and we were both assigned to the 6th Pct. Our training unit used to go out after work together and we always wondered why Jimmy hardly ever came. That question was answered the first time I saw Jimmy with his sons and realized his devotion to them was why he always went home. I would like to thank the Leahy family for sharing Jimmy with us because it's an honor to know him and a blessing to be able to better ourselves by following his example. You will never be forgotten Brother!

I WAS DOING A DAY TOUR ONE SUNDAY AND AS I WALK INTO THE LOUNGE THE FIRST THING I SAW WAS JIMMY AND JAY TORRES SITTING ON THE COUCH. THEY BOTH HAD ON PITTSBURGH STEELER JERSEYS AND JIMMY WAS WEARING A STEELERS CONSTRUCTION HELMET. JIMMY IS A TRUE HERO. AS OTHERS WERE RUNNING OUT HE RAN IN. THAT IS SOMETHING WE CAN NEVER FORGET. I'M GLAD AND PROUD TO SAY I KNEW AND WORKED WITH JIMMY LEAHY.
