Reflections for Police Officer Ramon Suarez

Shortly after 9-11 I rode my motorcycle (with 10,000 others) at a memorial parade in Phoenix, AZ. I wore your wrist band that day and I will always remember that and you. Later I looked up your Bio. We would definitely have been great friends had I met you before that day.

You live on in our hearts.

It broke my heart what happened to Ray. All the posts I see about him are about first responders, and well justified. But there was more to him than that. Ray and I coached CYO Track together, and my memories are that of how we spent so much energy coaching our kids, and spending time after meets discussing how we can do better for the kids. He coached for St. Matthias, me for Sacred Heart. We were going to get our teams together for a practice in the fall of 2011. I found out about his passing at the first meet, and had to run into the woods to cry. I swore I would never give up coaching because of him. Then two of my kids were diagnosed with autism. So it's a sleepless night getting them ready for camp. But then a commercial came on for "Answer the call", and remembered his dedication. I never have nor never will met someone like Ray, he's once in a lifetime. God bless you Ray.

After the tragedy of 9/11, I purchased a "dog tag" to commemorate the fallen officers. I was proud to have received Officer Suarez's tag. I still have his tag and would like to offer it to the family if they want it. I just have no idea how to contact them to offer it to them. Any suggestions?
I am the proud wife of a Police Officer and pray everyday for the healing and well being of all the families.

Rest peacefully in the heavens above PO Ramon Suarez. We will never know the reason why you and many of my friends were taken all too soon but let your legacy live and shine on. May the Lord take care of your family and bless them. Peace.

10 years have gone by Ray, and not a day goes by that I don't think of you or long for your embrace, my heart will remain broken in a million pieces until god calls me to be with you. Our baby girl Jillian has grown up to be such a beautiful and gorgeous young lady, just like you always said that she was going to grow up to be gorgeous. she looks so much like you and has your character, not a day goes by that she doesn't miss you. You were taken away from her too soon, she was only a baby and you missed so many special moments in her life in which cried wishing you were there we know that you are her personal angel and our guardian and we also know you did what you loved to do and that is to help others and there are so many families that you help not suffer the loss of their loved one, and for that you will always be our American Hero!! You will never be forgotten and I will love you until the day I die.

Officer Suarez,
I have been thinking about you alot latley, I dont know if it is because of comming to terms with the after math of 911 or what. I spent a week in your city arriving on 9-14-2001 to some of the best men and women i have ever meet in law enforcement. we were at the south tower and today as I unpacked some boxes after moving I found all the stuff we wore while in New York still in a biohazerd bag. lord what am I still doing with it I dont know, but I cant seem to get rid of it maybe some day.

I never new you but from what I read you must have been a very good man. for your family i am so sorry but as a brother I know you wouldnt have wanted it any other way.

rest in peace brother

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
