Reflections for Police Officer Mark Joseph Ellis
Mark, sorry it has been a while since I left a post. Not a day goes by that I do not think of you and Ray. On July 14, 2007, the NYPD lost PO Timeshenko. Please look after him.

Dear Mark:
Although you left this world at such a young age, what you accomplished in such a short life, most poets write about, and most men dream about. To be a HERO. And that, Mark, is what you are, a HERO. One of America's Finest, as well as one of New York's Finest.
So many police officers die each year, protecting those who cannot protect themselves. But that is what we are made of and sworn to. And you kept your oath intact, to "serve and protect". Serve and Protect...3 words that we the police live our lives by. And that is what you and all the rest did that day, and police officers everywhere do everyday...serve and protect our countrymen.
Our society has a habit of taking for granted or forget the sacrifices made by so many, to ensure our style and way of life be preserved. So it is up to us, the brothers you left behind, to NEVER ALLOW our fellow Americans to forget or take for granted what you did that horrible day.
To our fellow Americans, take notice: your police officers are willingly and able to protect you and your families from animals like those that attacked on 11 September 2001. To ensure that the dreams of Jefferson, Adams, Washington, etc., are kept a reality...to live free from fear, free from want, to live in peace.
To our enemies, take notice too: you have achieved only in uniting a country, hastened your demise, and will NEVER destroy our American way of life.
Mark, while writing this, I am listening to the song of "Happy Christmas", by John Lennon. As he says, let's hope it's a good one without any tears. Heaven knows, your family, your fellow officers, and your countrymen have shed too many tears already. May God grant you and your family the serenity, the peace, and the warmth of Christmas...now and forever. rest in peace, my brother. We have the watch. Amen

To the family and loved ones of Officer Mark Ellis and his fellow officers with the New York City Police Department and most especially to Mark:
Mere words seem insignificant to honor your heroism and courage which will never be forgotten. On this the fifth anniversary month of the tragic devastation wreaked upon our nation, those brave men and women who lost their lives safeguarding others are remembered and revered.
May your spirit continue to soar and your memory continue to inspire.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect and gratitude for the distinquished service Mark gave to his community and country, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 11, 2001.

Mark and I were in the same class at SUNY Farmingdale. I will never forget the days in college. I always remembered the time he took me to his job at an exotic car dealership. That was the first and last time I ever sat in a Ferrari and Lamborghini. That meant the world to me.
I am not suprised of Mark's heroic effort that day.
My heart goes out to Mr. & Mrs. Ellis, his sister and girlfriend.
God Bless

I remember when we where in the NYPD Police Academy together assigned to field training in the 110th precinct in May of 1998. We where both the same age, and filled with that youthful rookie ambition. Our shields gave off a blinding shine and our gunbelts gave off that brand new leather smell. We compared flashlights and complained about how hard it was to pay for a hundred dollar flashlight on a rookie's salary. You and I where assigned to a footpost on Roosevelt Av and as the 7 train roared over us, we spoke about how we couldn't wait to graduate the academy and start our careers at our permanent commands. We also talked about our ambitions and expectations in law enforcement. We exchanged numbers, spoke a couple of times after graduation and since we where assinged to different commands in different boroughs, we eventually lost touch. I came across your number in the summer of 2001 and was meaning to call to say hello, but life as a NYC Police Officer often leaves us with little time for catching up.
I also remember the sinking feeling I felt when I looked across the East River and saw the first tower collapse on September 11th, 2001. All I could think about was how many brother Officers and Firefighters I just witnessed lose their lives in a matter of a moment. I was overwhelmed with the intense feeling that you get when a fellow Officer is calling a 10-13 (Officer needs HELP forthwith!) over the air.
We all felt heartbroken when it was ascertained that we where missing 23 NYPD Officers, along with many Port Authority Officers and FDNY firefighters. My jaw dropped when I heard you where one of the missing. It really hits home when an fellow Officer that is your age, and graduated the academy when you did is fallen. It then occurred to me how easily it could have been me.
The subsequent report of how you and your partner took over a NYC cab (an accomplishment within itself) and rushed to the WTC to save lives makes all of us proud. Your sacrifice makes me realize the importance of our work and how precious life is.
Our lives and careers started around the same time, but yours ended way to early. As I continue my life and career in law enforcement (now in a Westchester County suburb a few minutes north of NYC) I carry the lessons learned from my reflections and along with our brother Officers nationwide, greatly appreciate the bravery, heroism, and sacrifice you made. Rest in peace brother!

No words of mine can ever reflect on the courage, heroism and dedication to duty shown by you and our colleagues on September 11 2001.
There is a reason why I have chosen to leave my reflection with you.
On September 11 2002, I was one of the serving Police Officers that attended in New York to reflect and honour your courage. Like you, I am a young officer with the same amount service as yourself. After the service, I attended the Police memorial, near to Battery Park. I saw another young New York Police Officer, along with his girlfriend/wife. That Officer pointed to your name Mark, showing the female as he did so. He was crying. I felt the largest lump in my throat ever felt. I shed the largest tear ever shed.
I never knew you Mark but I will always know of you because of that day.
Both you and every other Police Officer killed that day paid the unltimate price and for that every one of us will always remember.
A colleague.

There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.
You were called into this profession and our Lord and Savior has blessed you because:
According to Romans 13.1-5...
God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because God honors it.
You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for your fellow man, while serving, defending, and protecting others in your community.
Thank you for your service to America. Your efforts saved thousand that horrible day.
My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends. You will be in our hearts forever.

It was late one Tuesday evening,
Before a mother could sit down,
To tell her only child about
The terror that hit downtown.
She looked into the eyes of her son
God, she loved him so,
She felt her heart begin to break
And the hurt begin to show.
She gathered all her strength and courage,
as her story she began to tell.
"Baby don't cry, but I'm afraid daddy
Might be under a building that fell."
The boy looked back at his mother,
His eyes made not one blink.
And the mother's tears began to fall.
What would her baby think?
You see, his dad is a Policeman,
And his hero from the day of his birth.
He loved his dad more than anything else
That could ever inherit this earth.
The mother's head began to drop,
Her forehead resting on palm.
She thought her son would be upset.
Instead, he was very calm.
The boy leaned over towards his mom,
And put his hand upon her head.
In her ear he began to whisper,
And this is what he said:
"Mommy please don't cry,
I knew daddy wasn't coming home.
I talked to him just a while ago,
But it wasn't on the phone.
He told me that he loved me,
And he promised we'd meet again.
He told of his new home,
And the job he was to begin."
"God is building an army,
And there are many angels needed.
That, is where daddy and the others went.
They weren't all defeated."
It was then, the mother lifted her head.
The tears streamed down her face.
And she could feel her husband's presence,
As it filled her heart with grace.
It was then she knew her son was right.
He was in God's great army now.
She also knew her son was safe,
That he'd be kept from harm somehow.
So, evildoers of the world beware.
An army is on the way.
Bolstered by new angels,
Who left the towers that day..
Their commander has never been beaten.
His power has never been matched,
And if evil thinks He was almighty before......
Well, the surface has just been scratched!
9-11-02 - 1 year anniversary
We will NEVER forget!
GOD BLESS!

The Police Badge
-It is polished and shiny and looks so fine, once you earn it you have to tow the line.
-The minute you wear it upon your chest it becomes a symbol that you are the best.
-It means honesty, integrity and fairness to all, your life is never your own, but at the public calls.
-Night or day, any hour, it makes you a mark it doesnt protect you from a shot in the dark.
-Over the years the shine starts to fade, but brighter still is the man its made.
-It is often what seperates you from the crowd, it is a second family of which you are proud.
-So now comes your time, you cant be denied, when you pin on your badge, wear it with pride.
You and all the other officers, wear the badge with pride, while running to save fellow officers.
You are missed

I just returned from a vacation to Las Vegas. You would not believe the tribute set up to you and all those police officers,FF's, and EMS personel who were killed in that horrific attack on America. As I slowly walked the fence line of the NYNY casino reading the messages and shirts left, I was in tears. I lost so many fellow police officers and EMS workers, and this display opened the wounds I was working so hard to close. To those of you killed.... Thank You. You paid the ultimate sacrifice... a sacrifice I hope I never have to pay. You are now in a better place. to your surviors.... thank you for your sacrifice as well. Your loved ones died saving scores of other people. To my fellow Police, Fire and EMS workers....let us never forget the sacrifice of our fallen comrades.
