Reflections for Captain Kathy Nancy Mazza

You are not and will never be forgotten. You and the other brothers we lost that day are HEROES and will be remembered forever! Rest high on the streets of Heaven!

Deputy Brant Pewitt
Williamson Co. Sheriff's Dept TN.

September 11, 2007

Dear Kathy:
A hero can come from anywhere, at anytime, in anyplace, and be of any gender. So it is with you. As it is known, by firing your weapon, you created an escape route for so many others, who were facing certain death. Those actions may have cost you your life, but your legacy shall live on.
I have made a promise to each of you, that you all shall have a reflection from me. And this is yours. You have earned this, and a lot more. More than I, or America can ever give back to you. The only thing left to do, is to REMEMBER.
I will not tarnish this sacred site by discussing the yellow cowards who perpetrated this horrific act, except to say this: your actions are so typical of a coward. Strike when your adversary is not looking, and run. We have a saying in police work; "Run, but you can't hide".
Enough said.
Kathy, on behalf of every law enforcement officer in the United States of America, thank you for being there when so many of our countrymen needed you most. Thank you for the tenacity and bravery you displayed, and just as important, thank you for the honor which you have brought to all of us in law enforcement.
The cry of the wolf at the door has been answered, now rest in peace. My prayer for you is this:
Dear Father in Heaven;
Please hold this honorable and dedicated servant in your hand, and close to your heart. Amen

Palm Beach Sheriff's Office-Florida

Well done, thy good and faithful servant. Your heroic efforts do not go unnoticed. Thank you for serving our country. Though we knew not of that fateful day and the aftermath, you chose a profession that made you a hero and went out each day to serve and protect, no matter what the circumstance is.

I am so proud to be a part of this great profession. Captain Mazza should stand as an example for every female law enforcement officer to be held at that high standard. Her professinalism and courage under the most horrific of circumstances should serve as a testament to the importance of our great duty and obilgation. GOD BLESS YOU CAPTAIN MAZZA! I am certainly a better officer because of you!

Captain Mazza your quick thinking under the most adverse situation ever facing American law enforcement shows what a fine police officer you were. Your actions saved lives at the cost of your own. There can be no greater act for a police officer to perform then to lay down her life for the public. Your valor and professionalism will live on in our hearts. Rest in peace Sister, you did your duty well and bravely, we shall never forget you.

There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.

You were called into this profession and our Lord and Savior has blessed you because:
According to Romans 13.1-5...
God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because God honors it.

You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for your fellow man, while serving, defending, and protecting others in your community.

Thank you for your service to America. Your efforts saved thousand that horrible day.
My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends. You will be in our hearts forever.

I cannot find the words to say how sorry I am that we have lost these great heroes. I cannot express my thanks enough for your bravery and sacrifice. Friends and Family of Kathy Mazza,

I wear a memorial wrist band bearing the rank and name Capt. Kathy Mazza when I am on duty in Washington State. Kathy's commitment to duty, courage and determination are an inspiration to me daily. She is especially on my mind today as the Lynnwood Police Department mourns the loss of our fellow officers in New York with a special focus on the Port Authority PD officers lost. Kathy and her fellow officers have touched our hearts all the way across the country. We will never forget them, and I'll always think of Kathy every day I wear this bracelet and especially on September 11.

Peace to you all,

My heartfelt sorrow goes out to the Mazza Family. I have had the honor to work for Kathy many times. She was always fair in everything that she did. The Port Authority has lost a very valuable asset when it came to Kathy's ability to lead and her compassion for her officers. She will be missed by all that have worked for her and all that have had the honor to know her. Rest in Peace.

We can only pay tribute to Captain Mazza and the great many Emergency Services employees who entered these buildings to help others to safety. We must honor her memory by continuing to do the job with dignity and pride. I will be present to see her name etched onto the NLEOMF wall for all time. May God bless her soul and bless her family, friends and colleagues who have been left behind. You all are in our prayers. The members of the International Association of Women Police salute you. Godspeed, Kathy!

There is a saying that "you are the product of your own
brainstorm" If so, then she is a STAR ...Kathy was
BRILLILANT, keeping her cool she used her wits and saved
hundreds of lives by blowing away the WTC windows ensuring
the safety of grateful workers and allowing them to relay
her heroism to those of us who froze in shock. She will
always be a "Woman of the Year" to us. There is no
consoling our loss, our hope is that we can honor her by
striving to live up to her example and sacrafice. God Bless
her family, she is in a place of honor in our hearts
always. Thank you Kathy for thinking of others before

My Prayers are with all the friends and family of all the officers who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
I lost my brother tragically, Det. David Taylor, Greensboro PD, On August 7, 2001. I was in NY for my fiancee's Mother's funeral the first of Sept. I was stranded there for 3 weeks due to this atrocity. As I watched the events on TV, I cried for all those who lost their lives. But was especially emotional about the Police Officers and the Firefighters and their families, as I had just recently suffered a tragic loss myself. As I walked through the streets in the days following the attack, I cried with pride as I saw the officers on duty on all the corners in the city. I knew how hard it was for them, knowing they had lost their friends. On the Sat. following the attack I was at St. Patrick's for mass. The last 2 people to go up and take communion were 2 NYPD officers, again I cried. I hope all of you are getting the support that my family and I got when we needed it, from the Deparment. I know the comforting words and even the funny stories the officers tell us about my brother helps. I know that our loved ones who are gone from here, had a higher calling and are happy and at peace in Heaven. Hopefully we can all feel that same peace one day! God bless All of you! And God bless America!

God I don't know what to say. I intend to post this message for each and everyone of you heroes so Officer, Detective, Agent, Whatever,... I thank you. You swore to serve and to protect. Well your days of protecting us are over. But you will forever be in service. Your eternal service... the inspiration you and your fellow bothers and sisters have re-enforced in my heart, will live so long as I do. Though I will not always carry your name in the front of my mind, not in my duties as a soldier or as the police officer I plan to become when I get home, I will still always carry with me the knowledge of your sacrifice... of your heroism, of your selflessness... I will carry a samll piece of you everywhere I go. Be it with an M-16 in my hands in a strange land, or a badge on my chest in my own back yard... long after the flags come down and the nation carries on... until the day I die... you will continue to serve... as my inspiration. God bless you. God bless your family. God bless your agency. God bless FDNY. God bless all the soldiers, sailors, airmen, coast guardsmen, and marines. God bless New York City. GOD BLESS AMERICA. Thank you my brothers and sisters. I love you.
