Unfortunately,I didn't have the chance to meet Officer Gilbert, but when I heard he had made the ultiminate sacrifice, it felt as if I had lost a member of my family. My heart goes out to his family and all his friends in the Norfolk Police Dept.

Everything I have heard about Officer Gilbert is that, he was a good husband, father, and a roll model Police Officer. It is truely our loss, for those who never met Officer Gilbert.

To all who veiw Officer Gilberts reflection remember this " Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends " John 15:13

To my Fallen Brother:
The memory of you will last forever in my heart. Today I have said good bye to you from this earth but I know that the Lord only took you because he needed another angel to protect heaven. I know as you were looking down on us today you saw all the brothers and sisters who gathered to pay their respects to one of the finest police officers I had the privilege of working beside. You will always be in our minds and our hearts. Tiffany and Logan will always remain a part of our family and will never be alone. Thank You for friendship throughout our school years and while we served together. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten. God Bless You and Rest In Peace My Brother.

Police Officer George C. Wall

My heart goes out to the family and the other officer involved in this sad event.

POLICE OFFICER JAMES H. GILBERT
COLUMBUS DIVISION OF POLICE (OHIO)

I never knew you, but thank you for your services.
All humans are linked to other humans, somehow, some way. Someone you saved, something you did, surely started a chain of people who were helped. Surely, in that chain, I was a link. God bless you.

Thank you for your service to the community, I live in the area where Officer Gilbert worked and I will be a sworn officer in a neighboring city within a month. I am truly sorry for the loss that his personal family and his police family have suffered. His memory will live forever in my heart as I take to the streets to serve and protect. May our fallen brothers and sisters not be forgotten.

To the family, Relatives, Friends, and Work Colleauges of Officer James B. Gilbert,

I was in Norfolk recently on my way back from the United Arab Emirates when terrorism struck. My thoughts first went to those in Law Enforcement and in Fire and EMS.

It is with sadness that I have learned of a fellow fallen officer from your great city and our thoughts and prayers go up for you.

May you find strength in the Lord now and for the days ahead.

In His Name,

I regret not having the opportunity to have known Officer Gilbert. From all that I have read and heard about him in the last 24 hours, it seems that he was a role model for police officers and mankind. Officer Gilbert, through his exemplary life, his commitment to duty, and his ultimate sacrifice, has left an indellable impression on our lives. May he rest in eternal peace.

I wish Godspeed to Officer Gilbert's family, friends and the Officers that knew him best. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers in the days to come.

For those in blue that Officer Gilbert has left behind, please allow me to share with you something I read for the first time today from Sr. Constable J.R. Traeger, South Australia Police...

"Shuffle together ye who remain, for thou must close the gap left in the thin blue line caused by his passing. This hero shall not be forgotten."

Officer Mark Heckler
Chesapeake Police Department

To our brother in blue may you rest in peace. You are in a better place. God bless your family and friends.

I want to tell the world that James was a great man. I knew him since Jr high school and would see him on the streets from time to time on calls. James will be sorely missed by the community. Thank you James for all you have done for your community and your great nation. God bless you !!

I am very sorry to hear about Officer Gilbert,my condolances go out to his Family, friends and Brother and Sister Officers of the Norfolk Police Department.
I can only wonder what was going on in the mind of the Naval Officer who shot him. Why ? Officer Gilbert and his Partner were there to help him and he returned the favor by killing Officer Gilbert. Officer Gilbert will Rest in Peace as for his killer I doubt he ever will.

It is horrifying how often another HERO's name is added to this page. Officer Gilbert made the ultimate sacrifice, dying while protecting others. However, it is how he lived protecting others, that makes him a HERO. God bless his family, friends, and department. Rest in Peace, brother.

I have known James for 12 years and his wife Tiffany for 13 years. We went to High School together and remained friends. James made a really big impact on my life. He was the kind of person that would do anything for you. He always put his friends and family first. James is a good person and he will always be remembered.

First and foremost, I would like to give my sincere condolences to the family of Officer Gilbert. We know this is a very difficult time for you, and we are all here for you, your police family. I remember Officer Gilbert from my visits to Super KMart, where he worked part-time. He was always friendly, and courteous, and always seemed to be in good spirits. My husband and I are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and pray that his wife and daughter find comfort in knowing that they are loved and cared for, and that the Lord will keep them, especially in their time of grief.

Our Deepest Sympathies,

May GOD bless you all and comfort your pain in the tremendous loss of Officer James Gilbert. The Thin Blue Line is even thinner today as we have all lost a Brother Officer. Officer Gilbert will not be forgotten but remembered as the HERO he was and for the great sacrifice he made. GOD SPEED!

Another incredible loss. There is no doubt this society is slipping. Thanks for your service Officer Gilbert. We all appreciate those who are willing to risk it all to protect us.

You are not forgotten! We will continue to do the job in your honor and in memory of you and all who laid down their lives so that we could live in a civilized society. We are stronger because of you. Rest in peace.

This makes no sense it never does. I have lost two friends this year in the line of duty one was my partner back in May and the other was just this past Wednesday morning. This is a job that takes a special kind of person. We don't do it for the pay we do it because we just want to make a difference if it's just in one person's life.
God be with the family of Officer Gilbert and to the fellow officers he sereved with.

"Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord."......PSALM 30:24

TO my fallen brother. My heart goes out to your family, friends and Norfolk Police. The City of Norfolk lost a fine police officer on 9-28-01. It doesn't seem fair that your life has to end so short, However, the memory will remain in honor forever. I will be there in Norfolk with my full honor guard uniform on to show support and graditude in honor of your service. May you rest in peace and God watch over your family.
