Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jason Matthew Baker
My deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Baker. I can only imagine your pain and anguish of losing someone who was fighting the good fight for all of us. The thin blue line between law enforcement and chaos is a little thinner with his passing. Know that he now walks a beat on heaven's streets. Though I did not know Deputy Baker, I am sure I know some of the reasons he put on the uniform and went to work every day. Godspeed, Jason.

It says a lot of an Officer that continues the chase even after his vehicle was disabled from the gun fire. I truly think the only way to put it is the way a New York Officer put it to a news reporter on 9/11/01, "It is what we do".
Small words have only large meaning to those in law enforcement and those who truly support us. GOD SPEED brother, the nation feels the pain and loss of another American Hero

Death in itself is bad enough, but when an officer pays "the ultimate price", there is nothing greater to me. My beat borders Indiana and this could very well have been me. Rest in peace brother and thank you!
Be safe, Todd

God bless you and thank you for your service. I will pray for your family, and I will pray for Justice!

In the shadow of a horrible national tragedy, we look for hope, and as we are finding it, we are reminded that a single death hurts just as much.
I was among the hundreds of Police officers and fire fighters who participated in a two day honor guard vigil at the Indiana Law Enforcement and Fire Fighters memorial in Indianapolis on September 17th. While we were paying tribute to our fallen brothers in New York and Washington, we heard over the radio of a shootout in the city. After a few phone calls, we learned that Deputy Baker had been killed, and an IPD officer had been wounded. The already somber mood at the memorial became one of even greater mourning.
As we huddled around the radio listening to officers pursue the suspects, it was obvious that we all felt the same terrible feeling of loss.
Jason, you died serving your community, against a cowardly enemy that now faces judgement in a court of law, and at the throne of God. We will carry on in your honor, and in honor of all who have gone before us.
Patrolman Mike Hershberger

My prayers our with your family and friends. Our brother in "BLUE" you are in a better place now. May you rest in peace.

This saddens me so much. We put ourselves at risk every day or night that we go work, but something like this is not thought about much. This hits so close to home because I am the same age as Jason, and close by in Anderson. Jason is a true hero, and will not be forgot about. God bless his family.

My condolences to Deputy Sheriff Jason Baker's family, friends and Co-workers. It's always a sad day when a fellow officer dies, Jason was only 24 and what he could have learned from or taught the people in his community will never be known, becase he was gunned down by a coward who felt tough because he had a gun in his hand.
Rest in Peace Brother, You're a hero

What can i say.......my heart gets heavier and heavier everyday. All this killing and death is taking it's toll. Deputy Baker, you are a hero. You are a hero because you were trying so courageously to maintain peace and safety in Marion County. You will always be a hero in all of our hearts and Alameda County thanks you. You, along with all the other 103+ cops that died so far this year, give me the courage to continue my pursuit in this dangerous, yet so rewarding and exilerating career. God bless you and your family. May you rest in peace.

I am so heartbroken to hear about Jason. I know the pain of losing someone so young, so needlessly. The agony will lift with time. It's difficult sometimes to make sense of or peace with God's complicated, twisting and turning plans. Although Jason should have been here longer, he is so blissfully happy right now that it's crazy. He will be with you always. God Bless all those who fight for our safety.

Jason did everything 100%. I backed Jason up on a traffic stop about a month ago and we talked about a trip he recently went on. We talked for a bit and he was off to catch another drunk driver. I believe he got 3 drunks that night in a 6 hour shift. He wasn't satisfied with the 1 we are required to get. This is a great loss to the MCSD family. God speed Jason. I pray for Jason and his family. You will not be forgotten.
