Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective Kevin Darrell Rice, Sr.

You are not forgotten! We will continue to do the job in your honor and in memory of you and all who laid down their lives so that we could live in a civilized society. We are stronger because of you. Rest in peace.

...it rattles me to think of the lack of regard people have for life.
...it saddens me beyond belief that these poor children no longer have their father.
...when will it end?

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot at other jobs
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

So, if you've a place for me,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I’ve neither expected nor had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

*We are appointed by God to do the job we do.
*With God with us who can be against us.
*To be abscent from our bodies is to be in the presence of God.
Today is a day of questions and answers come slowly. The day will come when we will face our death. The question is are we ready for God to look apon us or for us to look upon darkness?
May the peace of the living God be with this family, in the name of Christ Jesus, AMEN.

Detective Rice's death is true to the saying that a true officer is never off duty. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family. He must have been a wonderful and caring man, otherwise he would not have ended up losing his life in such circumstances. May God watch over his family and may he rest in peace.

May the Lord wrap Detective Rice's family in his loving arms.
You will one day see him again....this time forever!!!!!

O, Almighty God, Whose great power and eternal wisdom embrace the universe, watch over all police and law enforement officers. Protect them from harm in the performance of their duty to stop crime, robberies, riots and violence. We pray, help them keep our streets and home safe day and night. We recommend them to your loving care because their duty is dangerous. Grant them your unending strength and courage in their daily assignments. Unite them safely with their families after duty ends.

AMEN

I never dreamed it would be me
My name for all eternity
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face

"In the line of duty" I hear them say
My family now the price will pay
My folded flag stained with their tears
We only had those few short years

The badge no longer on my chest
I sleep now in eternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind
And pray they keep this thought in mind

I never dreamed it would be me
And with heavy heart and bended knee
I ask for all here from the past
Dear God, let my name be the last

At times like these nobody can provide answers to the many questions that pains our hearts, and we dare not question God,for the Bible lets us know that sure as a man liveth he must surely die! All this family can do is believe in their hearts that the night Det.Rice was taken away from them was the night that God Looked down from heaven and decided,"THIS LOVELY FLOWER THAT I'VE GIVEN SUNLIGHT,RAIN,EXTRA LOVE FROM A WARM AND GENTLE FAMILY IS NOW READY TO ADD TO MY EXTRORDINARY BOUQUET!" thus taking him and clipping(the shots fired) him from the many flowers in this earthly garden, gently wisping him up and into his waiting vase that needed that final touch! When placed within,he gently said,"WELL DONE!"
