Reflections for Sergeant Joseph Dan Adams

Joe...
Time seems to drift on by and with it passing I am constantly reminded when I check on for work that there are others just like you that have gone on before me and paid the ultimate sacrifice. I am a better officer and person for having known you and spent 2 weeks in a DRE class with you. I will see ya when my watch is done.

I have heard folks say that it gets easier and easier to deal with a loved one's passing. I believe that you make peace with things, but I have to say that I miss you more and more all the time. I miss your straight-shooting, no bull outlook on things, and I miss coming to you for your opinion. There isn't a day that passes that I don't think about my little brother Joe with fond memories--sometimes making me laugh out loud, and sometimes making me tear-up--but always GOOD. with fishing season quickly approaching, I wish that you were going to be around to give me advice...I think that Zach and Josh probably get sick of having to walk me through everything themselves. All the brothers are doing well...we all miss you. Your wife is a great and very important person to me, and so is your handsome and smart as a whip little boy! I know that you are proud. Anyway, you know I have never been short on words (too bad, huh?)...but I love you and am grateful that you are always part of me.

Your big bro Chris

Joe, Were still missing you alot!! I miss the B.S. sessions on AOL and the times you would stop by the house to visit. I think about you all the time. I am very proud of Zach and the choice he made to follow in your footsteps at Lehi. Zach is very lucky to have brothers such as you and Josh who works with me at Orem. You and Josh are great examples of what an Officer should be. You were very blessed to have such a great family. They have set many great examples for me in my life and I know for many other people in dealing with your death. I feel it a great honor to know them. Thanks for the friendship and the great examples that you set to help me in my life and career. Take care Brother!! I will never forget you!!

Today marks two years since you made the ultimate sacrifice for the citizens of Lehi and your fellow officers. We miss you greatly and not a day goes by that your name doesn't come up in conversation around the department. We are a different department now than we were, I am sure that you are just as happy as the rest of us in seeing the direction that we are going and the great support that we have in getting there. I miss you very much Joe, I reflect often on all that I learned from you as an Officer and the friendship that we had. I miss the BS'ing on the graves and I miss all the joking around. You were an outstanding Officer and a good friend. I hope that we are making you proud as a department. I will see you again my friend, until then look over us all and don't let us mess things up too bad.

Remembering a very special son whose memories warm my heart on a daily basis. How blessed I am to be his mother.

I've been thinking about you and all the other officers out there this 4th of July. I know it's for the army men and those out serving our country, but you also served a little part of the country.
I think about you a lot. I hope to become an officer someday and serve a city the way you and all the rest of LPD do. Thanks! love ya!

Joe,

Though I didn't get to meet you I feel close to you through the guys in the dept. They talk about you often and share stories about your professionalism, your sense of humor and what an outstanding person you are.

One thing is for sure, you made an indellible mark on this community, one that will last forever and one that has changed many lives including my own.

The night you were murdered was the last night of my first academy block. I got off that exit after class and went home to change so I could go hang out with some of the guys from class. You weren't there when I got off, but by the time I got changed and left my house the sirens were screaming and the road was blocked off. I knew it was something bad and got the story when I reached the rest of my class mates. One had his scanner on and we listened sadly to the tragic news.

The next morning my wife found out and asked me if I was sure I wanted to to be in law enforcement and if your death changed my decision. I told her the only change was that I knew more than ever this was something I had to do.

Now I get to work with your brothers, my brothers also. They are an outstanding group of people. People I'm proud to be around. People I would walk through the flames of hell for. People I know would do the same for me.

Your legacy lives on and it's beautiful. The things you taught to others have been handed down again and benefit me every time I put that uniform on.

I look forward to meeting you some day, and to having an opportunity to work with your little brother.

God bless you Joe. You will always be remembered.
