Reflections for Deputy Sheriff William Robert Hunter

Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice to help keep Bute County a safer place to live. May you rest in peace, and may your family heal quickly.

I'm not in law enforcement, and I didn't know Bill...I do know his brother Rich, and consider him to be one of my dearest friends, and it is through him that I came to know of the closeness he shares with his family, and also through him that I came to feel I knew his family as well...I can't possibly express my deep feelings of sorrow for Bills family, wife and friends...In time your hearts will heal, and just remember you can all keep him alive through thoughts, prayer, and always in your hearts, no one can ever take that from you...To those of you still in law enforcement, my prayers go with you to help keep you safe.

I'd like to thank you all for your most heartfelt comments. My brother was a good man and it tears us all apart to lose such a great person. He was a dedicated Officer, a loving Husband, a devoted Son to my parents, a caring and fun loving Brother to myself and Kevin, and most of all a devout Servant of the Lord. He is at peace with the Lord now in Heaven, and I am so thankful for that. I cherish the memories I have of him through out my life with him hunting and fishing at every opportunity, and he will be missed terribly by all who ever came in contact with him. He was everybody's best friend who got to know him. He took that call without any trepadation and faced death straight on. He is now in a better place watching down on all of us, and I am jealous that he no longer has to face the hell that this world is. All of us Brothers will be reunited someday and we can all rejoice in the good that we have done. I pray for every Officer's safety out there so that no one has to go through what my family has had to endure. May God watch over us all and protect what we hold precious to us. God Bless You Bill. I miss you so much already.......

Rich Hunter, Correctional Officer
Butte County Sheriff Dept.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and the co-workers of Deputy Hunter. May he rest in peace, and never to be forgotten.

Police Officer Susan Harmison
Tampa Police Department

2000: Gone, But Not Forgotten
It is the dawn of a new day,
Which begins a brand new year,
Let us not forget about those we lost,
Who died fighting what most fear.

150 Police Officers,
In the year 2000 lost their lives,
In their wake there are grieving children,
Widowed husbands and widowed wives.

72 died feloniously,
At the hands of evil men,
78 died in accidents,
As they were preparing to defend...

The liberties of the rest of us,
As we seek to be all we can be,
I am humbly reminded,
That freedom is not free.

It is my hope that the year 2001 will be,
A year of fewer Line of Duty deaths,
A year the wind of freedom that we breathe,
Is not the year of an officer's last breath.

Bill was my brother in blood, Larry was my brother in Law Enforcement, both will be missed deeply. It is amazing to see how much the loss of two lives can shock a state or even a nation. Nothing can replace Bill for he will be missed in the duck blind forever. He will be missed forever. The people that Bills life had touched had always left an impression and that impression was never bad.
Bill left behind a life of love and friendship. Me, his little brother, Rich, his older brother, Mom and Dad, and a Wife. My thoughts are always of Bill and life will never be the same. Holly, you will always be loved as a sister and as a loving wife to my fallen Brother, he truly loved you.
My thoughts and condolences go out to the Estes family. A loss such as this is not to be gotten over, but is to forever be remembered to remind us that this life is so fragile. Bill and Larry's tour of Hell is in deed over and now shall they both enjoy a life of eternity with God. Bill is now watching my back until it is my turn to be reunited with him. God works in mysterious ways, trust in him, Bill did.
I thank everyone for their love and support through these tough times. Be safe fellow brothers of Law Enforcement, we all have a few new angels watching our backs.

Deputy Sheriff: Kevin Hunter
Plumas County Sheriff's Office

I didn't know Deputy Hunter, but I know he left an impression on the department of Butte County, his family and friends. The memorial service was very touching. Deputy Hunter is part of a large family of law enforcement officers in the state of California, and will be missed very much.
To his wife, you will still be a part of this family. Never lose faith in us. Deputy Hunter will be forever in my heart as well as the family members he leaves behind.
God Bless and fair well Deputy Hunter, and keep a watchful eye on us from up above.

I dread getting that message every week from ODMP that says,
"The following additions have been made..." I remember how
it felt when we lost one of ours. I wished that everyone in the world had had a chance to get to know him. He was such a wonderful man.

Every time I visit ODMP, and read about yet
another everyday hero that has been taken from us, I wish I had met him or her. I wish they had touched my life as they have so obviously affected those that knew them.

To Dep. Hunter and Lt. Estes: May you finally rest in peace, sirs. I have the utmost respect for the job you did. I wish more people understood it.

To thier families: I wish I could take your pain. Please, don't lose your faith.

REST IN PEACE IN HEAVEN BROTHER, YOUR TOUR IN HELL IS OVER.

It saddens me beyond words to see law enforcement officers killed in the Line of Duty. May we all never forget the sacrifices these men and women make each and every day in order to make the world a better place to live.

I pray for the family and friends of these officers, I know no one can replace these good officers, friends, brothers , but I know the feeling of loosing someone so close, I lost a very good friend, an officer, a brother to
me in June, Joey Cushman. I hope you try stay strong for these men to keep on fighting, I am sure that they would want you to do that. Much Love and hugs of comfort to all

Anne Hoffman

About 2 months ago I lost a good friend of mine, Joey Cushman, who was a Corporal in the Arlington PD, to accidental and very preventable gunfire. Despite the differences in these cases, I understand the devastation of such a sudden and unecessary death of a great man/great men. Joey was something of my hero and I am sure these men were adored also. I am not in Butte County, and I do not know everything about it, but I would like to offer my condolences. I know that does not help, because I have read "offered condolences" on Joey's memorial page and thought, "They have no idea." It absolutely crushes every ounce of hope, trust and faith in your body when something like this happens. You think, "Why would God do this?" and there really is no explanation. It seems that there is a point where God's actions simply cannot be for the greater good. Two months have passed and I am only BARELY beginning to CONSIDER attempting to repair my once-strong faith, not only religious faith, but also faith in living and in opening your heart to people that you might lose. Since the death of these two courageous and dedicated officers is extremely recent, I can only pray for the mourners because I remember the piercing, endless, horrible, inconceivable agony of the first few days. I will be praying for the families and friends of these fallen heros.

Casey

May God have mercy upon his soul and grant his family, friends and coworkers His consolation and solace.
