Reflections for Police Officer Larry Brian Mitchell

Officer Mitchell, I met Erika a few days ago. She is a super person. I recruited her to raise money for the Police Unity Tour. I think I have her talked into riding with us in 2009. We'll see your son Dylan rides when he is 18 yoa. Wish we did not have to honor you and you were there to ride for others. God Bless you and your family.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Larry,

As I was saying my prayers this morning you came into my mind. I lifted Erica and Dylan in prayer as well as your mom, dad, brother and sister. Happy belated birthday, I heard the song Spirit in the Sky and put the music as high as it would go and cried. You and your family are missed here in Gallup, New Mexico. Happy belated birthday to Dylan, God has blessed you with a handsome and smart son.
Erica you are doing a fantastic job. New changes at GPD, your old buddies are still there doing a great job. Watch over them, they are special.

can you believe 9 years ago tonite at midnite we were off to the hospital... I will never forget you had to call in to say that you couldnt go back on patrol and then started running around the house to get things together...22 hours later our beautiful boy was born..I so wish you could be here now and share in his life. what a sad existance to love someone so much and not even be able to tell him. even though I tell Dylan how much he meant to you he will never understand what an amazing father you were in the short time you had with him.. just seeing you holding him in my favorite picture says so much. I could not have asked for a better man to come into my life the way you did, so unexpected and yet so perfect.

Angels do walk among us.

Love you always,

Your wife

It's that time of year again, although it is early, but Happy Birthday. My brother's birthday is the same as yours so it's not hard to forget "my other brother's" birthday too. We miss you alot but we still think of you constantly and keep your loved ones in prayer. You will always be part of my family. You started with Region II while I was still in Narcs. I was lucky to have worked with you in both Narcs and the PD back then. You will never be forgotten!

Blessings of joy and protection to all your fellow officers and family. Keep watch from above over them.

Hey Brian,

Still hard to believe it was you. Sometimes I think, nah, it's not real. I come here when I think of you often and wonder about things. I look at your picture posted here and I think that you're just away for a while but then i realize, what happened when I read about the incident and it brings me back to, nah, it can't be. It's hard to believe for some reason, it doesn't seem real. But I know you're in a better place. I think about your family often and wonder where they are. The last time I saw your parents, they seem to be in my shoes, wondering if all this is a dream. But they seem to be holding up good. Erica and Dylan seem to be doing well. The reflections left here shows that they are growing stronger everyday and progressing well. We miss them too. I wish that we could visit your grave but we can only pay our respects thru prayer. We miss you a lot. Please watch over your fellow officers and keep them safe.

So the first week of 3rd grade is offically over.... what a trip to see your boy so independent and smart and handsome...... wish you could be here to share the greatest time in his life... as he gets older it just blows my mind how much he changes into a young man it gets so hard for me to let go and accept that he wont need me someday.....like your death this is one of those things that you can never truly put into words, the emotional roller coaster that your kids take you on ........if I think about it long enough I think I might go crazy....

Hi Dad, I miss you and I love you and I will see you soon....... Dylan

Hey Brother, it's me again!!! Thinking of you and wanted to tell you that I Miss You and Love You! Hey, remember when you wanted to be a body man?!?!?! Just remembering a bunch of crazy dreams you once had. I am glad that you got to fulfill some of them. I wish it could have been all of them. And, yes Erika, Brian did love you with all of his heart! Thanks for making him happy!

A FRIEND AND CO-WORKER

June 18, 2007

"God encourages you and his love comforts you. God's spirit unites you and you are concerned for others. Now make me completely happy. Live in harmony by showing love for each other. Be united in what you think, as if you were only one person. Don't be jealous or proud but be humble and consider others more important than yourselves. Care about them as much as you care about yourselves and think the same way that Christ Jesus thought. Just as Christ gave up everything when be became one of us. Christ was humble and obeyed and died on the cross. God gave him the highest place and honored his name above all others." (Philippians)

What can I say Larry, but it's kind of like the same humility you had. You cared about others and gave your life doing what you loved. Today marks the sixth year you've been gone but your memory lives on daily.

Brian, Jess, Mikey, Matt, Richard, Bobby and Ron, you are all thought of in prayer and not forgotten either. Wherever you may be, you are remembered thru prayers and to those who serve and protect.

To the Mitchell family, God be with you all. May He continue to give you all strength each day.

God bless,
Jenelle (Former GPD)
