Reflections for Investigator Sherry Elizabeth Lyons-Williams

To the Atlanta p.d family, officer Lyons family ,and the law enforcement family; We have all lost another hero that made the ultimate sacrifice.God be with officer Lyons and her family. She will never be forgotten.

Sergeant Chris Spires
Baldwin co. s.o. Milledgeville,GA

As I sit here and read all of the Reflections, I find tears streaming down my cheeks. I am not a Law Enforcement Officer, merely a citizen in the Atlanta community. I am ashamed to say that of all the officers I have passed by, along my walk through life, I have never once stopped to say thank you.....Not a thank you for enduring the attitude and hatred of those you have never before met, nor a thank you for taking a drunk driver off the roads, not a thank you for blowing the whistle and waving me on with a white gloved hand, guiding me through traffic and along my way, not a thank you for keeping drugs off the streets and helping to keep people sane, and never once a thank you for waking up every single day, proudly dawning your police gear and rushing through your front door to risk your life for............... me.

So, to all of you in blue, I say thank you and thank God for you. To the family of Sherry Lyons-Williams, may God bless you and keep you. To Sherry Lyons-Williams, given your hard work and dedication, it is only fitting that it be said again "How honorable to die doing such a noble thing".

Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice

I am not a law enforcement officer and I did not know Mrs. Williams. I feel a tremendous loss. I am from the southside of Atlanta. Everytime I hear of a law enforcement officer injured or killed my heart just breaks into. I always wanted to be a police officer but it never worked out. Please remember that Mrs. Williams and others who are injured or taken away from us loved what they did. Our police officers in heaven will continue to watch over us. She was a very courageous woman and I think what she done in her career was very honorable. Thank you

As a former practicing attorney and current teacher in Valdosta, Ga., I have known and know law officers as friends. It makes my heart ache to know that those such as Inv. Lyons-Williams who put their lives on the line every day for my safety, and my family, make the ultimate sacriface. I conference with my students daily about the dangers of drugs, guns, and everything associated with that lifestyle. Although our paths never crossed, my thoughts and prayers go to her family, partner, and all in law enforcement. Your efforts are truly appreciated. God Speed Sherry for a job truly well done.

Sam Lassiter - Teacher

I would just like to say my heart goes out to Inv. Lyons-Williams family and to the Atlanta Police Department. Just remember she is in a better place now! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

My heart is heavy right now, but God knows all, and He comforts in these times of sadness. I only knew Sherry for a short time when she was a student at University of Georgia. She and my brother, Marcus Davis, were friends. She would go out to eat with our family when we would visit my brother. I saw a strong female who was determined to be the best in all that she set out to do. Even though she did not have a lot of family, she was still determined. Sherry, you made a difference and I just thank God that I was able to know such a wonderful, spirited young woman who strived for the best in life. My prayers are with you Vincent, and your family as well. May you find comfort in knowing that it is well with Sherry now.

I am not a police officer, but I work with them each and everyday (School Detectives Unit). They are great people. I would also like to become a part of the Law Enforcement Field. I'm a student at Georgia State University majoring in criminal justice. Inv. Sherry Lyons-Williams you are an idol of mine today because I would like to work with the Narcotics Unit as well. Thanks for being a strong black female and giving me encouragement to fulfill my dreams in the field of Law Enforcement.

With Deepest Sympathy

I'm a police officer in the city of York, PA. I'm familiar with the family of the suspect who live in our city. Please let Officer Lyons-Williams family know that I am praying for them and that I will pass this information onto my fellow police officers. Our department lost someone special, yet GOD sees and knows what's best. She is happy at peace knowing that she tried to do what's best. She brightened many hearts and left big smiles. You are missed my friend. May he watch and keep your loved ones through this sad time. Thanks for allowing me to know you.

It is always difficult when you lose a fellow Officer. We have a large Department. When I first heard the name of the Office killed in the line of duty, I did not recognize the name. I went home and looked up her name in our yearbook, I then realized that we had lost some one who was a dear friend. Go with God, Shery. Sherry's partner,T.J. Chambers, was a friend of mine. T.J. was released from the hospital today. He will make a full recovery. The scumbag who shot Sherry and T. J. was dead on the scene.

Lt R. L. Sullivan
Atlanta Police Department

I never met Investigator Lyons-Williams, but I have the most absolute respect for the difficult job that she and her fellow officers perform for our beautiful city.

Thank you, Investigator Lyons-Williams, for having made the ultimate sacrifice in your attempt to keep our streets drug-free.

Thank you all, Law Enforcement Officers, for risking your lives daily, to keep us safe in our various cities.

I was very devastated to hear about the death of officer Lyons-Williams, but I'm glad the suspect can't hurt anyone else. My prayers are with both families.

Even though we've never met. I remember your face in passing, in the hallways of city hall east. Myself new to the department. I looked over at you and said okay! You just smiled. That smile helped! Just to see another female (smiling)was help enough. My prayers are for you and with you.

While watching this sad story on television, my heart just broke for the family of this downed officer. Some times as the public, we do not show our appreciation for the watching over of us by the forces, but I would like to say at this time how thankful I am to have some one dedicated to the public that she would give her life. I thank all of the Police officers that put their lives on the line for me every minute of my life. It is with sorrow we say goodbye to such a wonderful person. Thank you,

I was very touched by the officer's death, and wanted to just write a few words of encouragement to slain officers family members, co-workers.
We don't say often enought when we pass you on the street "thanks for doing a great job". We often don't realize all the things you go thru. I know it must be hard to keep going, but please continue your work, without you doing your jobs where would we be. My heart is heavy today realizing the sadness you must feel right now. You are all ( truly) appreciated. GOD BLESS YOU All. (concerned citizen sharing in your time of grief)
