John Robert, Just came by the scene of your crash, it was really hard for all the memories to come flooding back like it was yesterday. Except for this 1, all of mine involve laughter. Thank goodness you were one of my influences on the THP, if some others had been, I probably would have left long ago. I know your smiling on Heather and family, she is an amazing person, and has a family to match her.

J.R.; I guess you are still on patrol at the Pearly Gates. I hope you still have time for some laughter. That was one of the great things about working with you. Go with God Shooter; I still get a kick out of telling that story!

Daddy, your granddaughter arrived on May 24th, just 5 days short of your birthday. Derrek and I named her Kinley Nicole and she is beautiful. How I wish you were here to hold her! It's funny, after all these years I still cry every time I get on this site. So much has changed, yet it's still the same. I brought Angel back home a few months ago. I haven't rode her and probably won't. You were the only person she ever liked, although she is fond of Derrek because he gives her treats! There's so much I wish I could tell you. I'll give Kinley plenty of extra kisses for you! All my love, Heather

I miss you so much Dad. As I go through life it is so hard not to be able to pick up the phone and talk to you. It's been almost 7 yrs and your memory is still as strong as ever in the hearts of the people who loved you so much. So much has happened since you've been gone. Marriage, paramedic school, pregnancy. I so wish you were here to be able to hold your granddaughter when she's born. I've only got 4 more months to go, maybe she'll be a week early and make her entrance on your birthday. I'll make sure she always knows what a wonderful, wonderful man her grandfather was. Love you!

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

JohnRobert,
It's been 5 years, and still I wonder when you are going to come by to share a smile. I just wanted to let you know that since you've been gone I've gotten to know Heather so much better. She is an awsome young lady. I think she has finally found herself and her place in this world. I hope you don't mind that I have fallen in love with her. You would really like Dew, he seems like he's good to her.
Rest now my friend

Well Ole Buddy we had another Memorial Service yesterday. Sad but then again Happy times. The service was as usual very nice. Everyone shed some tears and hugs. We all then remembered the good times. That's all we can do now but we know you are in a better place where good times are always. We all think of you often and miss you and that grin everyday. I have your picture along with Trooper Todd Larkins hanging in my office and think of you both daily. Rest in Peace by brother.
