Officer Martin,

As a small boy in 1969 growing up in Melrose, I thank you for your service and proctection. It was police officers like you on the Melrose Police Department that inspired me to become a police officer. Now in my 25th year with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, I owe you and the many officers like you a great deal of gratitude for steering me into such a fantastic profession. I have no doubt that Saint Peter opened those Golden Gates immediately upon your arrival. I would also like to thank you family for allowing you to serve the great citizens of Melrose. May God continue to bless and watch over them.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 43rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your grandson for sharing memories and devotion to you through his reflection.

Patrol Officer Martin, today marks the 39th anniversary of your tragic death. Many of us have been in those foot chases where we find ourselves out of breath and ready to collapse. Maybe there’s something we could do to prevent that, maybe not. Of course NOT getting in a foot chase would be the perfect solution, but we all know, that’s something that just has to happen now and then. It’s part of the job.

Officer Martin, you are a hero because you got into that chase and you saw it through. You showed guts when others might have said, “The hell with it.” You did your best.

Though your family lost you in the physical sense, I cannot believe that you were not there with them through thick and thin, and are there even now.

God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.
