My name is Lucille Evans. I am also the great-granddaughter of Officer Hughes. His story is exceptional. I live in Williamsport, Pa, his hometown. His portrait is on a building downtown and in 2015 a street was named in his honor. I have been searching for your side of the Hughes family, Meredith Gibbs. I have family pictures to share.

Officer Hughes was my great-grandfather. One of his daughters, Verna Hazel, was my grandmother. I know very little about the circumstances of his death or of his wife's (my great grandmother) family. I would appreciate any information about the Hughes family.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 107th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

My wife grew up in Williamsport and I had the pleasure of living there for 3 years before we returned to Australia. Despite living on the other side of the world and living in different centuries your sacrifice will never be forgotten officer Hughes. God bless to you and your descendants. Every year we return to visit family in Williamsport and every trip you will be utmost in our thoughts and prayers. God speed Officer Hughes!
