Reflections for City Marshal Ben J. Hill

Can you tell me where the Grove of trees was where he was shot? I was in Blossom yesterday August 12, 2024 , and I could not find the gravestone at The Knights of honor cemetery. I'm not even sure that's where he was buried.. My great grandmother Sarah Ida Holcomb was the wife of Benjamin Hill. She later moved to Oklahoma and re-married, and my grandmother was born from that second marriage. This is a heartbreaking and also fascinating story to me. Also very important for my own history. -Grant Davis, Tyler TX

Ben Hill was a relative of my Family on my mothers side. I have his marshalls badge and the newspaper article about his death.

Ben J. Hill was my grandfather. The father of my father, Floyd Herman Hill, who was 4 when Grandpa was killed. Thank you for including him on your Memorial Page. I have pictures of the memorials to Ben Hill, both in Austin and in Washington, DC. I have been to Blossom and saw the grove of trees where Grandpa was shot. I also visited with a man who was one year old when the killing happened. That man was a close friend of George Hill, brother of Ben's who was also a lawman for most of his life.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 107th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace

Benjamin Joseph was my great-grandfather and his story is one often told in the family. My father, Benny Joe, is named after him and has done much research. The family name has also been carried on in my son, whom I named Benjamin. From everything I have read, Benjamin Joseph Hill was a well-respected man in Blossom and his death was a great loss to the community.

Benjamin Hill was my great uncle. His brother was my great grandfather and replaced Ben in his capacity of town marshall of Blossom Texas after his demise. I have done a lot of research about Ben. He was by all accounts a good man who was taken early in his life. His death like so many other lawmen was taken needlessly. He is gone but definitely not forgotten.

You sacrificed your life in the line of duty. For that you shall be remembered as a hero. Rest in peace.
