Reflections for Police Officer Aubrey Wright Hawkins
Your heroism and service is honored today, the 11th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

I knew Aubrey when I was 15 in dallas texas at lake highlands jr. high. he and I were very close then but we lost touch when my mother and I moved. When I saw his picture on the t.v. I was devestated its like god ripped out my hart. and still today it feels the same. He alway had that smile and everyone loved him. But he served and protected us well. I miss him soo much.I wish I could be there for his wife and son. I love and miss you Aubrey, rest well.

It is so hard to believe that ten years has gone by since that horrible Christmas Eve night. Just wanted you to know that many people remember you and think about you.

I always think of you and your family at Christmas time. Though I never knew you, I remember the terror felt throughout the state when the "Texas 7" escaped, less than 2 months after my father was killed in the line of duty. And then I saw your family at the Texas Peace Officer's Memorial in Austin the following May. For these reasons, I have always felt a connection with you and your family. May Texas never forget your sacrifice in your work to keep us safe from evil.

I just saw your photo again on the always remembered section. I remember when it all happened. I had been a police officer for only about six months and was deeply saddened by your death. It's been almost ten years and we will not forget the sacrifice you made.........

Aubrey, Last Wednesday, while standing at attention at the graveside service of Cedar Park Police Officer Leonard Reed, my thoughts turned to your graveside service, funeral and to our friendship after high school. Each Christmas brings some sadness knowing that your family hurts so much more. I regret that we lost touch, you were a fine young man and it was an honor to be your friend. Rest In Peace.

Thank You officer Hawkins. I never met you but I feel like you are my brother. You were my mirror image and it is an unusal feeling to know that you gave your life in the line of duty. It gives me a strange sense of pride to know that you lived. It makes me sad to think your life was taken in the way it was. God bless you Aubrey.

To the family of Aubrey, I was just reading his page again today and want you to know your husband, father, and son will not ever be forgotten. His gentle spirit and larger than life heart will remain with us at Irving PD. His picture hangs solemnly in our lobby to remind us of his ultimate sacrifice. I was working off duty that night and still remember vividly Aubrey's response and the following radio traffic. Our hearts were broken along with yours. I say a prayer every Christmas eve for his family and hope to see him in heaven one day. Rest in peace, my brother.

On the 9th anniversary of Officer Hawkins' death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Officer Hawkins is not forgotten.

Mrs. Hawkins, no I unfortunately have not had the pleasure of meeting you. I am from Paris TX. I followed the case where you lost Aubrey very closely. It broke my heart to read about him. I think of him often even though I never was lucky enough to meet him. I know I will meet him in another life when this one is done. He has served as an inspriration to me when I think I don't want to continue in this profession. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts particularly at this time of the year. God Bless you all.

I was thinking of Aubrey this morning and the sacrifice he made nine years ago today. It doesn't seem possible that much time could have passed since we were working together at the Irving Police Department. Since my retirement from the IPD I've met a lot of fellow law enforcement that are familiar with Aubrey's story. I always take the time to tell them he was a fine young officer. May God continue to bless his family.
