Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Patrolman Clayton Wayne "Scooby" Hicks, Jr.

I met Scooby in the Memphis Police Department Training Academy. He became one of my best friends. He helped me through a lot. He wanted to be a police officer forever. We would sit around and talk about it. I spoke with him two months before his death. The last thing we did was hug and say I'll see ya soon. His death was so sad. I love you and miss you.

Such a senceless act for such devotion to duty. Thank you Officer Hicks.

ONE MOMENT

In the whisper of the wind,
I felt God embrace me.
As the voice of a loved one,
I heard God speak to me
Looking in a mirror
I saw God smile at me.
One moment and I knew
That God and I were one.

It is a sad day when an officer pays the ultimate sacrifice when he or she is enjoying their off-duty time. Officer Hicks Jr. will not be forgotten.

I met Scooby when we were stationed together in Germany. He was our tour guide, our guidance counselor, but most of all, a very good friend. Unfortunately, we didn't stay in touch after he left the Air Force. I'm sorry to hear that he's gone.

Scooby,

Although we wept because we missed you, God smiled because you are now with him. It was wonderful having you as a friend. I will always remember your smile, your sense of humor, and your kind spirit.

His name was Scooby. Thats what we all called him. Its what everyone called him. He was a kind and gentle soul, who never hurt anyone that didn't try to hurt him. He lived in and worked in the same neighborhood, because he felt officers should have a bond with the people they police. I was his partner and I remember our last conversation. Scooby was my friend, and I was proud to call him that. I will never forget him, and I know he's in a better place.
God Bless you Scooby.
We'll show you special at First & Heaven.
