Reflections for Corporal Edward M. Toatley

Thirteen years today and yet the pain of losing you feels like it was just thirteen minutes ago. Thirteen years today and Sgt. Gloria Wilson still stands by this family, as she promised you and Daddy she would. Our family could not have gotten through your loss without her. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Your namesake grandson, Eddie, is just like you. He looks like you and Mommy says he acts just like you as a toddler. Daddy is there with you now, and Lord knows, he had a wonderful send-off thanks to Gloria and the MSP. I love you MC and I miss you more than words can express. I carry you in my heart every moment of my life!

Your sister,
Joyce

I Never forget you bro. As I promised myself and God, every year I have tried every year to visit your wife and kids to keep your spirit alive! I am leaving with MSP Corporal R. Taylor on Wednesday to check on your resting place and visit Inez, Daniel and Taylor. As I use to tell you "I got this" Still miss you man

MC,

it has been 12 1/2 years since you left us. I have missed you so much.

I recall the last Coalition meeting before you were taken from us. We were racing around the Coalition office with vacuum cleaners and goofing off.

I remember the night you were killed. I was talking to a girlfriend when a news flash came on TV stating that a MD Trooper had been shot in D.C. I called HQ and learned it was you. I was in no shape to drive, so two other Troopers picked me up and we drove to the hospital in D.C. We constantly told each other that you were going to be ok. God wouldn't take someone who was so caring of others and so relentless in fighting for safe neighborhoods for little kids.

You would be proud to have seen just how many of your MSP brothers and sisters came that night. Unfortunately, God felt it was time for you to come home.

Shortly after, I dreamed of my mother who passed in 1990. She told me that you were ok.

I remember one time when another Trooper and I were in a Walmart's in Catonsville. We separated and picked up some items. Then I saw a guy who could have been your twin. Man, I thought I had seen a ghost! I hurried to find the other Trooper, who was also trying to find me. She saw the same guy and thought it was you, too.

I have had the honor and pleasure of representing your parents, sister and son on numerous occassions over the years when health or other situations wouldn't allow them to attend some memorial services and dedications.

My granddaughtler claimed your parents from day one and vise versa. They are known to her as Grandma Lily and PopPop. She really thinks that Mrs. Lily belongs to her.

Toby and I talked regularly on the phone about everything under the sun. He has gone home now, too, and I'm sure he's with you. Now I catch myself getting ready to call him and then it hits me...

You would be proud of Antoine. He really looks good in that uniform. Yes, he's a police officer. You have a beautiful grandson now, also.

My granddaughter has to write a report for school for the Patriot Program. We were discussing who she could write about. We picked you. You are a Patriot and very deserving of being recognized.

Rest in peace little brother and take care of PopPop.

With love,
Gloria

This is the first time I have written to you Edward, please forgive.

I have come to this site many times and have read all the wounderful things that everyone has ever said to you and our family and it is overwhelming. I miss you so very much.

First I would like to say thank you to everyone who every knew my Edward. He was kind and loving, he would give the shirt off his back if you needed it. I also would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the years. I know I will see Edward again.

Today I found a picture of Edward holding his son Daniel when he was born. It was hard for me to see that. It hard to see all the years that Edward has missed with his kids. I also found a love letter from him, were he tells me that our love is genuine and for forever. That I was his heart, his soul his everything.

The fact is, that Edward and I, we made each other better. He made me a better person and I made him a better person. Now that I don't have you by my side anymore, I'm forever broken. The day you were taken from me my world was rocked.

I will always stay strong for our children Edward. Love U 4 ever.

I knew very little of my father because I was only 18 months old at the time of his death, but from the storys my mother tells me and the reflections everyone writes, I know that he was a good man and I wish that I could meet him. I know I will, in my dreams and one day I will meet him in soul.

What a great experience and privilege it was to meet Inez Toatley and her children, Taylor and Daniel, Sunday, 12-18-2011, in Naples, Fl.

We had about 14-15 motorcycles from the Florida IV Chapter of the Blue Knights International Motorcycle Club and 3 local County Deputies pull into their driveway.

After presenting the kids with their gifts, Taylor an ipod with a docking station and Daniel a HP laptop computer, we spent some time talking to them before leaving. We gave them a few business cards and told them to contact one of us if they needed anything. We also gave Inez a small silver pendant badge with the inscription 'Officer's Wife'.

The kids are very respectful and as well mannered as anyone could only imagine. I'm sure that their dad is very proud.

I was retired from the Miami-Dade Police Dept when this tragedy occurred. But as a member of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club in Florida, several of us will be riding from the Ft Lauderdale area and will visiting his minor children, Taylor & Daniel, this Sunday, December 18th, 2011, in Naples, Florida. We will personally distribute Christmas gifts to his kids, an honor we appreciate being part of. We are bound to 'never forget' our fallen brothers and sisters that live in our State. He has earned his place next to the Throne and now sits with the lion and the lamb. Rest in Peace my Brother.

I first met Ed. at the Bel Air Barracks while he was a cadet. We immediately became friends.Later I was lucky enough to be his group supervisor at the Annapolis Barrack. The fondest memory I have of our MSP experience was the rescue of a family of ducklings that somehow ended up on U.S. Route 50. As the group Sergeant and with the imput of my group Ed. included. we closed down Route 50 and rescued the ducklings. From that day on Ed.said that it was a MSP S.E.A.L. team operation and I was henchforth named Bill "Pappy" Harden by Ed. and the other group members. Ed.was without a doubt the best undercover officer many of us has ever known. He truly loved his wife Inez and his family. His name is and has been hung on a wall in my home copied from the LEO Memorial in DC.I have and will continue to miss him forever. Bill "Pappy" Harden.

Many fine things are written here about you. I don't know
what is more deadly, the war on terrorism or the war on drugs. You were very courageous and steadfast in doing what
you knew to be the best for our country at such a high cost.
May the Lord Jesus continue to heal and comfort your loved
ones and all who trust in Him. Thinking of you on this 9th
anniversary of your passing.
