Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Bruce Wayne Evans

Deputy Sheriff Evans, rest in peace.

It's been 18 years and I think about you my brother everyday I go to work or see an officer on patrol. You were my wife's FTO at the time of this tragic incident. She had just left for the Academy the week prior. I know she would have been standing with you as she did during the time you trained her. Thank you for being the person you were and the officer you were. I know your training kept her safe years later because she reflected on the things you taught her, all the time. So Thank you for your service and being my/our brother in blue. We miss you and will always remember you.

Bruce, my brother the day that I heard of your fate was the saddest day of my life. You were more than my partner, you were my brother. I missed you the day that you left us at MCSO and I miss you even more today. Although it has been 17 years I still cannot understand why you were taken from us. You were the best of the best. You were what I tried to be a Good Husband, Father and friend. You will always be in my thoughts and my heart. Rest in peace my brother.

I only knew you for a short time but as a former officer and brother I want to thank you fit your service. But most of all, I want to thank you for training my wife, Pam. She takes highly of you daily. She knows as well as I do, if she had not left for the academy just a few days earlier she would have been standing with you that night. Instead of giving up she said you pushed her on to be a good officer. She honors you still, every day. Again, I want to thank you for being the man and officer were. You my brother will always be remembered. I know you, Larry Lee. and my Dad, Paul Moore have continued to watch over us all from above as you did down here. When we meet again my brother...

It seems like an eternity since you transcended. Then again, it seems like only yesterday that you and Brent, Jeffrey, Allison, and Brandon and I were going on our nature walks or looking for arrow heads. Not a day has gone by since July 18,2000 that I have not thought of you. In certain situations, I feel your presence so near.I always told you that I loved you like my next heartbeat, so your absence took a big hunk of joy from my heart.July 18, 2000 became my 911. But, I know we will meet again. Aunt Sandra

Just last Sunday marked the 10th anniversary of your death. My daughter posted this site on Facebook...I didn't know about this one.

You were so loved by so many, Bruce. We miss you every day. Kristi has done a marvelous job of raising Blake and Tyler. Blake graduated high school this year and will be attending Southern Miss (I know, we wanted her to go to Auburn!) She is a beautiful young lady, and as Kristi says, "she has Bruce's butt chin!" Tyler has shot up like a weed and will be 16 in November and is a handsome young boy. He will be playing varsity soccer this year.

After the trial in 2003, Kristi remarried to a really good man. You would truly like him and respect him. He has been so good to your children, Kristi, and to your folks. She and her husband have a son.

So much has happened in our lives since you left us. Jeffrey and Lynn have two little boys and a little girl and seeing those boys play in the dirt is so reminiscent of you and Jeffrey, because Luke is so like his Daddy and Will, the younger boy, looks so much like you at that age. You would get such a kick out of them and their baby sister.

Ethan graduated from high school this year and is such a handsome, fine young man. Brent and Jeffrey work together. Life goes on but there will always be that empty space at our table and in our hearts. You were one of a kind and we thank God for all the joy you brought us the 30 years you walked among us.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the tenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those who love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I SEND ALL MY CONDOLENCES TO MR. EVANS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

January 3, 2006

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Tonight, July 18, 2005 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Deputy Sheriff Bruce Wayne Evans who died in the line of duty on this date five years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Deputy Evans' sacrifice will never be forgotten.

It was 5 years ago to the day that you were taken from your family. You, your family, friends, and fellow officers will be in my prayers today. Thank you for doing your job. It is a shame that you had to give your life earlier than you wanted. Rest in peace and continue to protect everyone from above.

Dear Bruce

No one knows, no one can understand,

why you were taken from this earth of ours.

But when we look up each night,

we will see your smile in the stars.

We know a laughter and a feeling now,

that we never knew.

All because you touched us,

We will miss you.
