Its been a while since I posted anything. I hope you forgive me for that. I still think you are looking after all of us, and I am not the only one thinking that. Things have changed since you left us, but I think you would be happy with how we are handling things. You will always be remembered. Rest in peace

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 12th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace
I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

kelly v. you were simply one of a kind. I learned so much from you when I got into this line of work. There were so many good memories over the years, and it is hard to list all of them. You are truly missed and thought of often.

Kelly would be so proud of his girls. They have turned into wonderful young ladies. We were just talking about his Habaneras. Todd is growing some more this year in your memory and to share with the deps who stop over labor day weekend. And he along with Wic and a few other will be imitating you with fondness. You are never forgotten.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Seven years have passed and you have not been forgotten nor will that ever be the case as you are a true hero. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones, protect them from harm and let them feel your presence around them. Also, keep watch over those still out on patrol.

When a police officer dies, it is not just the agency who loses an officer but the entire country as well. And all of law enforcement mourns.
I salute you for your service and honor you for your sacrifice.

I have known Kelly and his family since I was very young. I used to babysit his kids and our families hung out on many occasions. As I got older and met the man I am now married too, Kelly helped to christem him with his HOT peppers, what a night to remember. Kelly was a great friend to my father, as well as my family, extended and all. He was a great and courageous man, with a strong wife and beautiful children. I am very greatful that him and his family were a part of our lives. He has been dearly missed. I pray for peace and serenity for his family. God Bless.

I never had the honor of knowing Kelly, but I sure do know a lot about him. His memory is alive in the hearts of everyone that knew him. Stories about him are able to warm up a cold night. The amount of respect that my coworkers still hold for Kelly is truly unbelievable. He is truly missed by all and my prayers are with him. Rest In Peace.

I was working Sebewaing P.D. one night and was thinking of Kelly. He was a awsome man and i still to this date miss him. I miss our golf games together and B.S. sessions on cold winter nights. Most of all i miss his friendship. This is one man who will always be in my thoughts, as well as his family. We all miss you K.V.

You never know how people truly touch your life until they are gone. Kelly truly touched mine. He was a good father, husband, and friend. I know that he watches over his family and other his friends to this day. Its been four years since his death, but at times it feels like yesterday.

In loving memory of D.S. Vermeersch
We are fondly remembering you
today, the 4th anniversary of your
death. Thank you for your selfless service and sacrifice. It is a
long road to healing that lies ahead, but I know that our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ will extend His mercy and comfort to all who reach out to Him.
There is none greater than He. We don't get to Heaven based on what we do,
but what He did for us!! AMEN! There is now a huge void that cannot be
filled. God be with all those who mourn and may His promises lift all those
with heavy hearts for many years to come. I found this poem on another's
site and wanted to share it.
We may never understand it,
the risks these brave ones take,
but occasionally we see a bit
of the difference their lives make.
Some do it for the action,
others find it a callin'.
All find the satisfaction,
and few become the fallen.
Being an officer is what he loved,
To him as good as it gets.
Law was what he dreamed of,
He would have no regrets.
And though it saddens all of us
to lose him in this way
He knew how an officer must
Live life to the fullest everyday.
You are in my thoughts. If only I could erase your pain...

I worked with Kelly on midnights for several years. He was better then a good man, he was a great man. He was always around for back up, to chat, to give advise or to just sit and BS. I think of him often. Kelly - you are truly missed.

I went through the 1987 Delta College Police Aademy with Kelly. I was 22 years old then, I'm 37 now. I like to make people laugh, I think it's important to have a sense of humor
in the law enforcement profession. I remember trying to make Kelly laugh. I'll never forget the looks he used to give me. He would look at me like I was crazy and just shake his head. One of my favorite photos is when we graduated and me, Kelly, and John are arm and arm with big smiles on our faces.
