Reflections for Police Officer Tanja Brigitte King

Tanja

I never met you....I was working as a communications officer for Orange County SO at the time of your death. Up until about a year ago I had blue C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Surviviors) ribbon around my car mirror to remind me of you. I took it down only because it was falling apart. I was very touched by your death. I am now a Law Enforcement officer. It takes a special person to do what we do. I think it is truly a job you are called on to do. Thank you for all you gave. A Thank you your family for all they gave. We are blesed to have you watching over us. You will not be forgotten.

Tanja, on May 18, 2000 you left us here to "Cross Over" to the other side. Our hearts still ache for you and we will never be the same. We think of you every day and miss your smiling and lovely face. We know you are in Heaven and looking down upon us which gives us some comfort. One day we will all be together again. We Love You. There are so many things about you that remind me of me! I may not have known you very well, but I loved the way you kicked butt in Steve's class! You inspired me more than you will ever know! I wish I had the opportunity to get to know you better than just at the gym & around the station, as I have heard only the best things about you! I did have the opportunity to get to know your parents & I understand why you loved them so much! You STILL inspire me, Tanja! You will NEVER be forgotten!

Hi Tanja,

Received an e-mail from your dad this morning about their trip here to DC next week. I'll finally get to meet your mom, Tony, and Jennifer.

This year will be especially emotional for your family, since Tony will be singing at the Candlelight Vigil, which is only 5 days before your EOW.

Our consolation is that you are resting in God's arms side-by-side with your squad-mate, George.

I'll be at the Memorial Sunday for Law Ride and to bring you and George your yellow roses.

Sleep Peacefully,

Sylvia

I remember Tanja well.I was in my 14th year on the street when she passed. She always made me smile. It takes a special person to bring a smile to the face of a crusty old grouchy cop.

Hey Tanja,

You've got a new little full-blooded Korean nephew. Your brother's so excited about it because this is his first true "blood" relative. He's a beautiful baby and your folks went to see him 3/26. His name is Hunter James King. Isn't that a fantastic name? Your dad is so proud of this baby.

Keep watch over George for his mom, and we know God is keeping watch over both of you.

Your parents, Tony and his wife, and I, will see you on May 12th and 13th. I'll also see you before then.

Love,
Sylvia

Hi Tanja,

Spoke with your Dad a couple of weeks ago. He, your mom, Tony, and his wife will be here in DC for a few days during Police Week. Tony will be singing at the Candlelight Vigil. I'm going to pick your parents up at the airport when they arrive. Can't believe it's only 2 years since I met your dad...Police Week 2002. I feel as though I've known your family forever.

Sleep sweetly, and I'll see you and George in May.

Tanya,
It's funny how the paths of two people, from far different reaches of the country, can have so much in common. Like you, I attended Police Week in DC in May of 2000. On May 18th, during my first shift back from DC, I was struck by a drunk driver who hit my parked cruiser at 75mph. I suffered back, neck and head injuries and was out of work for 6 months.
The following May, while making my annual late night stop at the wall, I read of your accident. Same date, same first shift back and while on a routine call. As fate would have it, later on that same evening, I happened to run into an Orange County deputy at one of the local Irish establishments, who after a couple minutes, I learned had attended Police Week with you the year prior. I then discovered that this deputy was on his departments tactical team with two of my closest friends who venture to Maine every year to hunt at my camp.
Each year since, my first stop at the wall is to visit with you. Although we never met, I can't help but to believe my name should be next to yours. I guess it wasn't my time and God decided that he needed an angel to help watch over the rest of us. Thank you for keeping us out of harms way.
God bless.
