At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.
Today, February 29, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Patrol Officer Michael Edward Deno who died in the line of duty on this date four years ago.
When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.
Officer Deno's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

It's been almost four years since you were taken from our ranks my friend. Not a day goes by that I do not think of you and pray for your family.
Keep your eye open for us who are left behind, and remember that you will never be forgotten my friend.

Deno's death has affected me in many ways. It has changed the way that I approach a car, pat people down and especally how I have someone step from a vehicle. Although I can't say that Deno was my friend, we went to the academy together and I remember him fondly. To his family, know that a day does not go by that I don't think of him, the life he gave and you. My prayers and thoughts for you all, especially Cindy.

Though I did not personally know Officer Deno, I know why he went to work every day. All of the citizens of Indiana will miss what he had to offer to his community because someone didn't want a ticket or to go to jail. This was a tragedy compounded by the lack of reasoning of one individual. My deepest condolences to Officer Deno's family, friends and co-workers. You will be in my prayers. Godspeed, Michael.

May the lord walk with officer Deno showing him the way as he should! Many times i think what could happen to me in my line of duty ,,,,,,and then i reflect on the thoughts of my fallen comrades!........."what happens happens!!" ,,,,,,thats what i hear ....never once thinking of themselves..as the victims of violent crimes...... only concerned with the innocent......and the protection of life!...."blessed are those who rule the earth" that is us.....we try,,,,,,,sometimes laying down our lives.....MY heart goes with the deno family!!..and my door is always open! Mike, I am so proud of you not only for what you did by protecting the community but also for being who you were. You accomplished so much in your short life that no one will ever be able to forget. I know now that you are in a better place and that you are looking down upon each and everyone of us and that one day we will see each other again. I love and miss you very much.

In my heart,I'll pray to the mighty LORD above for Officer Deno's family. He did not deserve to die in the manner he did.He was only doing his job, which is to protect the innocent. Well,he is in good hands now.May he rest in peace. From a Lilburn Middle Schooler

Last fall, my daughter was envolved in an altercation at school, and the other child's parents filed a police report. Mike Deno answered the call, and came to my home to speak with me and my daughter. At that point, I had already heard my daughter's version of the story.
As Mike and I were speaking I told him, "I know you're just doing your job, but these are a couple of 10-year-olds. If you ask me, I think this is stupid." He looked at me like he wanted to laugh out loud, cracked a small smile and said, "I agree with you there." Then he talked to my daughter about controlling her temper and responding appropriately to provocation. My daughter has tried to keep his words to heart, she hasn't been in trouble since.
Mike you were a good man, and this town misses you very much. God bless you and keep you forever.

Mike, you were a great man. You gave your life protecting the town you loved. That same town loves you too. I miss you so much. Our fishing trips and all the other things we did that I took for granted. You touched all of our hearts with your friendship. You could always make me laugh, and it really didn't matter to you whether it was at you or with you. We love and miss you very much!

It has been a little over a year since Mike was taken from me. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of him in some way. He will always be in my heart. I still have my good and bad days, but generally when I have something crummy happen, or I am saddened by what happened to Mike, I remember a funny memory of him and it puts a smile on my face. That is Mike working his magic if you ask me. Mike will never be forgotten in my eyes and hopefully not in those that knew and loved him. I love you, Michael!
