Reflections for Corporal Steven L. Levy
Hm... I really, really wish you were here.
Thanks for all that you've done...
And I think you'd be terribly proud of your sons.

Thought of you yesterday as my "new" town lost one of it's own. A bright young cop's cop like yourself who's watch ended so needlessly 7/18/08. Steve, you will ALWAYS be missed, and NEVER be forgotten. Just as you watch over all of us, I hope you'll watch over the newest fallen hero "Andrew Widman" of Ft. Myers Florida who now walks beside you. Miss you..your friend Eileen.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I just wanted to post like many others on this site, that You will never be forgotten. I live and grew up in the town you served. I am a training officer for my own department and use your name in some of my lessons. To let the new officer's know how to conduct themselves and how they will leave an impression that can survive past them.
You were and will always be remembered as a GOOD cop, good man, husband and father and a brother in blue.
I also want to extend my respect to Preston and all the others who strive to keep your memory where it belong.... always on our mind.
God Bless you fallen warrior.

Steve, the other day my Stepfather was wearing the shirt I gave him that was made in honor after your passing. It always reminds me how many people admired you as a person and an officer. May God Bless and Protect your family and friends.

Steve:
It seems like yesterday.
Your memory is not forgotten.
I AM A WARRIOR by Jon F. Hooper
I fight not for glory or fame,
For they are momentary.
I fight for those who can't.
I fight for Justice.
I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden.
And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets,
For I serve to protect the innocent.
It matters not where or when,
For evil knows no boundaries.
Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny,
I will not flee.
Justice is my weapon.
Faith is my shield.
Hope is my armor.
Cry not at my passing,
For it was my Honor to fight for you.
Shed not tears of sorrow,
But tears of joy,
For now,
I stand with God.

To the family and friends of Corporal Steven Levy and his fellow officers with the Washington Township Dept.
It has been six years since your tragic line of duty death. Please know that you are not forgotten and your valor and dedication to your job is still remembered and honored.
It is obvious from reading the reflections about you that you were well-loved by many and well=respected by your peers. I am so saddened that this brutal murder robbed a family of thier husband, father, and loved one.
I hope that your loved ones are still
comforted by the caring and support of their law enforcement family, and other police survivors.
Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers on April 23, 2005.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Corporal Levy gave to his community and the citizens of New Jersey, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 21. 1999.

I attended training today where officers from around my county related stories of surviving shooting incidents in which they had been involved and it immediately brought Steve to my mind. I worked for the Washington Twp Police Department for several years and was working on the night Steve was killed. I have since moved on from Washington Twp, but I think of Steve daily and the lessons he taught me in the short time I knew him. He was always willing and eager to teach the young guys and ALWAYS left an impression, especially on me!! I couldn't help but think today that Steve should have been one of those survivors standing in front of the class and passing on his lessons learned. We lost one of the best on October 21, 1999, but his lessons live on in the many officers and people who knew him. We miss you Steve.

To Cpl. Levy and his family,
I was not a police officer yet at the time of your death, however I had met you a couple times, and even that left an impression.
I now work in a neighboring town and with officers who served with you on the SWAT team. They all speak so highly of you, and strive to train harder and smarter so as not to lose another brother.
What I wanted to post, was how much admiration and respect I have for one of your brothers in blue. Preston was my class leader in the academy, and hired by your Dept. a year after your passing. In the short time he's been with Washington Twp., and even though he never served with you, he's been the front runner in organizing the Steve Levy Memorial bike run every year. Through his and many other's efforts, your family will not know financial hardship, a memorial was built in your honor, and numerous other charities benefit from the run.
Even 5 years later, the tributes to you by the many generous people that donate to your cause is overwhelming. You are not forgotten, and so many other people are being helped in your honor.
Thanks for everything you did, and continue to do.

A few years ago now, I saw another officer here in Michigan wearing a t-shirt from the Washington Twp. P.D. in New Jersey. On the shirt, the modified caption from WWII "All give some, one gave all" caught my eye in regards to your department....Until just now, when I saw your memorial on this website, I never knew how the fallen officer from your department had died.
After all this time, your brothers in blue still salute you for your service. My deepest and continued thoughts go out to your family, friends and co-workers.
