Reflections for Sergeant Robert Gene Kimberling

Sgt. Kimberling:

I feverishly hope that the tragedy that catapulted St. Joseph into yet another mourning period is the last one I ever have to see. I know that it is not possible to prevent all tragedies, but I truly believe St. Joseph has truly suffered enough tragedy in the last eleven months. I also pray everyday that there will be no more, just as I have prayed for the last eleven months.

For you, my dear Fallen Officer, have opened a wound in the hearts and souls of the good citizens of St. Joseph and the surrounding areas, not of your own volitions, but through the senseless act of others. We also know that we as a community will miss you, but the worst tragedy is for your family who will never be able to hear your voice or see you smile, much less ever feel the reassurance of hope in your embrace. They have truly suffered the most,we must now do our part to support your family, for you.

I personally had never met you, yet I feel I know you because of the impact you had on the other officers in the region. I also am beginning to understand more and more everyday the bond one brother in blue feels for another brother in blue, with your passing there is another chink in that big blue wall that can never be filled in the hearts of many. I always heard thst you were a decent and kind man, that the younger officers admired, now I wish I could've known the man, and not just know the legend of the man.

I can only hope that as you walk your beat in Heaven, you take the time to stop and guide the way for the rookie officers, still left here on Earth, to carryon the Good Fight for you.
Rest In Peace, for you served your time in Hell and now you may walk the easy beat of Heaven.

Someone who cares.

A FINAL GOOD-BYE

by Kelsey Carroll (Age 13)

He was one of the best troopers this world

   will ever know,

In or out of his uniform his face was

   always aglow.

He was like a second Dad to me and I

   will miss him a lot,

But to die at age 43 was all part of

   God's plot.

None of us could have guessed what was

   to happen that day,

When a man didn't pay for gas and

   quickly drove away.

But God knew it all along and didn't

   even think twice,

Because in the game of life,

   God rolls the final dice.

I will miss you Trooper Bob, who I will

   proudly say I knew.

I will miss you Trooper Bob, who

   proudly wore the blue.

But I know you are in a better place,

   far, far away,

And because God is in my heart,

I will see you again someday.

I had the opportunity to work with Bob for five years when I was with the Cameron, MO police department. I answered calls with him, ate dinner with him, joked with him, road on patrol with him, and talked about life with him.

Bob was a man who loved life, he was a dedicated family man and was an outstanding and dedicated law enforcement officer. The disbelief, anger, and frustration I feel right now is overwhelming!!! However, we must never ask why!!

"....and in their death they were not parted; They were swifter than eagles, They were stronger than lions." I Samuel 1:23

Bob, you, your family, and the patrol are in our prayers....Until we meet again my friend!!!!

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting you, I did know your mother. She was very kind and I know very proud of you. I have often driven on I-29 and each time I reflect on your death. I'll will never forget what you died for. Please watch over us.

God bless

Being originally from the Maryville area, I pass the sign on 1-29 all the time, that mentions Sgt. Kimberling memorial highway. We will never understand why people do what they do. But I do know Sgt. Kimberling was protecting our lives with his. Let him be remembered as the hero he was.
