Thinking of your loved ones today and everyday. I know the daily struggles they face without you and the terrible pain within their hearts. God, wrap your loving arms around them and help them with their grief and let them feel your presence.
Your sacrifice has not been forgotten.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Bill attended my BLET class as a part time classmate. I remember he always sat at a table on the other side of the classroom. His table faced opposite from mine and so I always remember the smile he had on his face in class. He always seemed to have that smile. I didn't know Bill personally but I think of him now and again and therefore he is not forgotten. God bless.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).
We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.
These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

Somebody killed a police officer today,
And part of America died.
The piece of our country he swore to protect.
will be buried along with our pride.
The criminal that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widow must work,
And grieve many long, dark, empty nights.
The beat that he worked was a battlefield too,
Just as he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
his sacrifice we will never ignore.
Yes, somebody killed a police officer today,
This cop put his life on the line.
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A felon he sought to confine.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at a new rookies' side.
He answered the call, of himself he gave all.
And part of America died.....
In memory of Bill and in honor of the Warren Co. Sheriff's
Department.

Bill Henry was a true professional, one who loved people and one who lived life to the fullest! Bill loved being outdoors and being with nature. He will be missed. I will always remember Bill Henry for his natural and infectious smile. One of the nicest guys you could ever meet. He would give the shirt off his back if you asked for it. The world will miss this officer greatly. We could use more officers like him. Thank you Bill for what you have given to us. We miss you.
