Steve
I miss seeing that smiling face and hearing that voice over the radio. I think about you ever time I see a motorcycle officer ride by. I think about you when I am driving out in the country here in Indiana and see horses in the pastures. And now you ride the golden streets of Heaven.
Steve everyone misses you. Hug my Dad and Linda for me.
and keep E.T Reid in line (if thats possible lol)

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal
Our memories are treasures no one can steal
No length of time can forget the past
Too many memories hold it fast
Today, tomorrow and our whole life through
We'll always love and remember you
Life goes on, we know it's true
But it's not the same since losing you.

Always thinking of you! Love and miss very very much!!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Read this poem and thought of you. After 8 years, it still seems like yesterday that you were taken from us. Think of you each and every day! Miss and love you!!

A heart of gold stopped beating
Two smiling eyes at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
that he only takes the best
You were someone very special
You can never be replaced
Your memory in our lives
can never be erased
Your resting place we visit
To place flowers with loving care
And no one knows the heartache
when we turn and leave you there.

ITS SOUNDS LIKE THUNDER FAR AWAY...

It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright...
And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight.
They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat fast...
They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past.

Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one...
From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun.
And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them by...
And young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes.

They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you...
They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few.
Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light...
then with a roar and rumble, they ride out of our sight.

Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again...
You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind.
Side by side, they slowly ride, and their thunder is a mournful sound...
And the mirrors hide their eyes from us, when teardrops fall to ground.

So if you see one riding, and you look into his face...
You see your reflection in his eyes, you know that you are safe.
For motormen are a special breed, they love to ride the wind...
And when you hear the thunder boom, the fallen ones ride again.

I read this and thought about you, think about you every day! Love you and miss you bunches!!!

They say memories are golden, well maybe that is true,
We never wanted memories, we only wanted you.
A million times we needed you, A million times we cried,
If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.
In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still,
In our hearts you hold a place, no one could ever fill.
So as the year goes by, it doesn't seem that long ago,
Times don't change the fact, that we still and will always love you so.

Hey Uncle Steve... I've been thinking about you a lot lately. We have lost another hero in our nearby city. Just brought back all the memories of the day God called you Home. Almost 7 years now and it still seems like yesterday... I know you were there waiting, with arms wide open, to greet MPO David Whitson. I bet you two are patrolling the streets of Heaven :) I just want to tell you that I miss you so much and that you are ALWAYS in my thoughts. Yesterday was your birthday and I have my blue ribbons up in your honor :) I love and miss you more than you could ever know! :)

To Master Deputy Officer Steven Roberts and his loved ones:

On this the seventh anniversary week of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart goes out to your family. You’re in our thoughts and our prayers.

Steven, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

When I read the awful driving record of the driver who hit you it angers and sickens me.

Rest in Peace, Master Deputy Steven Roberts.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Steven gave to his community and the citizens of Florida, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 3,1999.

Brother Roberts,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Respectfully,
You’re Brothers in Blue
