Spike, I "only" knew you 8-10 years, but have known your family for many more than that, and you became a good friend and co-worker. I think of you often--we miss you and will see you again when we all "end our watch."

You have not been forgotten and are a true hero. Heroes never die. Keep watch over your loved ones and those still on patrol. You will never be forgotten.

I was a lieutenant at the county when John was killed. John was not just a good officer, he was a good and decent man. He left behind countless friends and relatives who loved him, and will always miss him.

On September 7, 1998, my very special cousin John was killed in the line of duty. John was more than my cousin, he was my brother and one of my best friends. He was always there for me with an ear to listen with, a shoulder to cry on, a joke to make me laugh, and advice when I needed it. I know it wasn't said nearly enough, I love you John and miss you more than words can say.

Cousin Denise

On November 4, 1994, I met the man who would forever change my life. Deputy John Schmitt taught me so much about life. He was a hero in every sense of the word. He made my life complete. On September 7, 1998, we lost John. A part of me died with him that day and there is a hole in my heart and in my soul that will not be filled until we meet again in Heaven. Sweetie, in your life and in your death you have made me a better person. I miss you so much. Carla
