Reflections for Sergeant Kent Dean Kincaid
Kent,
It is hard to believe is has almost been ten years since you left us. I remember that night like it was yesterday.
Nancy, Courtney and Jena were in Dallas yesterday for Jena's UT volleyball tournament. They spent the night and we enjoyed the evening, talking about the old times when we lived across from you all on the cul-de-sac. What fun we all had watching our kids grow, having pot luck dinners and BBQs. I can still see you and Jena throwing the softball. You were a wonderful father. You must be so proud of Courtney and Jena. They have turned into beautiful young women. Nancy has done a great job with them.
We will never forget you and will see you again someday,
Susan and Gary Brusa

I just read your story and am touched by the act of bravery you displayed on that night. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. It is also encouraging to see the Reflections left by your daughter and those you worked with. May you keep watching over them and know you are not forgotten, Sarge.

Hi Dad
Zach and I ran the marathon this weekend! It was so much harder than I remember it being last year...very hilly! I cut 12 min off of my time though so I was very pleased with that. Let's see I turned 20 on Saturday! I can't believe it, I definitely feel like I should still be in elementary school, playing catch with you in the cul de sac. I am playing club volleyball this semester at UT. It's a lot of fun, I'm really glad I did it. School is really hard right now. Anatomy seems like its going to be impossible! Courtney wants to start running in 5Ks and work her way up to a half marathon. MOm is getting back into tennis and has been busy keeping up with us and taking care of things around the house, etc. We miss you a lot and really wish you could be here. I know you would have been right there at the finish line this weekend (or maybe even running it with me?) who knows. But I know you were watching over Zach and I both during it and that's gonna have to be good enough for now. I love you and please watch over us. Help me get through this semester and be with Mom and Courtney.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Jena, I just read your reflections regarding your dad and it breaks my heart. I worked with your dad at the Westside station, and I just wanted to tell you he was one of the finest man I have ever know. He spoke often of playing ball with ya and was very PROUD of ya. He loved ya with all of his heart. I am glad ya are doing well. GOD BLESS.

Hi Dad
Wow this is kind of weird, but i thought I would try this. I miss you so much, I haven't seen you in over nine years and it has not gotten a bit easier. I miss you everyday and would give anything to play catch with you again, go for a long run with you, or just hang out all day together. I wish you were here to see how much Courtney and I have grown up. Mom has been so strong and independent, I know you would be so proud of her. In the past nine years Courtney and I have both picked up volleyball. She's very good and I know you watch her at all of her games. Volleyball is pretty much over for me, competetively at least, but I have picked up running. I wish you had been there in February to run my marathon with me. It was a great experience and I am training to hopefully beat my time this year. Remember what you always told me "second place is just the first loser" :) so encouraging lol. I really wish you could be here to meet Jose. He's really great and really wishes he could have known you. Ya'll would have gotten a long so well and as talkative as both of yall are, you probably could have chatted together for hours. I remember everyday how perfect life was when you were here. I am so greatful for the time I had with you and just wish it could have been longer. I miss you so much daddy and will never forget you. You're my hero whether you like it or not and I can only hope my children have a daddy as perfect as you. I miss your sarcasm and jokes and heart felt talks and competetivness---everything. I love you. Keep watching over us. Help us to keep living life and not to give up. It's so hard without you, but we are doing our best to make you proud.

You were straight-forward and kind. You liked to tell jokes, showing your sense of humor. You liked adrenaline yet were cautious on duty. You were a good sergeant and officer of the law.

In loving memory of Sgt. Kincaid:
You are being hilighted on the website today and your story makes
my blood boil. I just can't imagine
how evil some people can be. We
now have the opportunity to honor
your memory posthumously and to
thank you for your tremendous

sadder than this. My heart goes out
