Reflections for Detective James Franklin Northcutt

I read about your fateful day in this month's issue of "Police". What a sad day. The bad guy got what he had coming himself. Godspeed Sir!

I first met Jim in Lake Charles La. in the early seventies and he was my brother-in law. I hadn't seen him for several years untile his untimely death. He was a true friend and someone to look up to. Thanks Jim for all the memories. You will never be forgotten.

Every May I remember Detective Northcutt. I recall first meeting him in my first job in Tupelo and later as a fellow officer on the Coast. I think every year at this time of the news that Northcutt and the Sgt. had fallen in the line of duty. I remember working the streets for Long Beach as their officers took time to recover. A community and the law enforcement family lost two great men that day. It is a loss that I will never forget and two lives I will always pay tribute to. Continue to watch over us brothers ... protect us from above.

Jim and I worked together at Tupelo PD, from the time I got there (1994) until I left in 1996, to work in Long Beach. Jim's family and mine became close as we only lived three houses away from each other. Jim then came to LBPD and joined me and his other friends. One thing to know about Jim is he was loved by his peers and respected by administration. He had no issues sharing his 30+ years of experience and even became a guide.

Law Enforcement lost a good cop and a good man that May, but Jim's memories will never be forgotten by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Rest in Peace Jim, God's with you.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

...Gone, but never Forgotten....

I want to offer my condolences to the family and friends for Det. Northcutt, I had great pleasure in knowing James when he was my Lt. with my agency in the early 90's. He was a great man and a practical joker (which made it fun to be around him) He taught me alot when I was first getting started in the law enforcement profession, I want to Thank him for all he has done for me, may you rest in peace and the rest of us will handle the shift from here while you enjoy the fruits of your labors.

Detective Northcutt was a former sergeant with Tupelo Police in Tupelo, Mississippi.  Detective Northcutt was a friendly and caring officer who was always ready to go above and beyond the call of duty to help someone.  He was always there for any officer who needed help or even some friendly advice.  Detective Northcutt will always be remembered as an officer who was a friend to all.

Detective Jim Northcutt was a true "Warrior". He loved his family foremost, but he also loved his job. He left behind numerous friends from various departments in Ms, Tn, and La. ,who miss him greatly. He was a top-notch police officer and we may never find a better friend. His family will always remain in the hearts of the people who knew them and those who didn't. We can only imagine their grief. There was no rhyme nor reason to his death, but we all have to understand that this could happen to anyone of us at anytime. HERE'S to you Jim, from your Tupelo friends. We love and miss you much!!!

I had the pleasure of working with Jim and I had just visited with him on the coast just before he was killed. Jim was and will always be someone whom I respected to the utmost. He was a straight shooter and he would always give his last. I truly do miss him and I know that the officers that worked with him misses him also. My heart goes out to his family and they will be forever in my prayers and my family prayers. I know that Jim is in a better place and that he is looking down on us. Take care my friend and one day we will meet each other on the streets of heaven and will roll and patrol them like we did here.
