To Officer Russell Peterson and his loved ones:
On this the eighth anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.
My heart goes out to your family. You’re in our thoughts and our prayers.
Reading the loving reflections about your beloved Russell gives us some understanding of what a kind and honorable man he was. His heroism was unparalleled.
Russell, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.
This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.
Rest in Peace, Officer Peterson. I am humbled by your valor, courage, and dedication.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Russell gave to his community and the citizens of Nevada, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 24, 1998.

Russ (D-H)
You were always there when I needed you, even though we were only partners for a short time.
You were joined by Henry only days ago, Im sure the two of you are climbing the mountain to find the perfect golf course, with Donnie right there with you. Teach them to climb safe, climb high and above all have fun.
Some day you can teach me to climb the mountain with you.
Rest in peace my friend..
Your friend... (B-D)

Officer Peterson, You are a TRUE HERO. People throw that word around too much these days to others who do not deserve it. You gave your life so another could live. You now walk the streets of gold. God Bless

Russ you were one of the best and nobody should have ever told you otherwise. You'll always be missed by those of us who knew and worked with you. We'll await the day we walk a beat together again in Heaven. Until then, help us all be safe and watch our backs, and most of all watch over and keep an eye on Henry, he misses you the most.

Russ,
I am forever hurt by what happened to you. You were always a cops cop. I will never forget you my friend. I still remember some of the good times we had together working at Provo PD, Utah on the SWAT team. I miss your Christmas cards, I miss your smile and humor. Until we meet again my friend. Parners forever...

Russ was an exceptional officer and was always urging other officers to become the best they could be. He was involved in training many officers that serve here in Las Vegas today. We all reap the benefits of those whose lives, both professional and personal, Russ had touched. I was fortunate to have Russ as a partner in a high crime area of Las Vegas. His high standards as an officer and a family man inspired me as I'm sure he inspired others. He was one of those people that had a great inner strength. You could feel it when you first met him. Many times in tough situations that strength of his made the difference for me. I know everybody here misses him. I feel a great sense of loss but look forward to seeing him again someday. I know he watches over me like he always did.

I was lucky enough to have met Russ when I first hired on with Metro. We found out that we shared a love for rock climbing and began spending many a nights after work and the weekends climbing together. It is rare that you can find somebody that you trust enough to ask them to hold your life by a line several hundred feet off the ground, not to mention watch your back on a car stop or domestic. Russ was one of those quality people that forever had a smile and a good word. It seemed that he was always looking to improve himself and those around him. Because Russ strived to be the best he could, he forced you to do the same without ever pushing. It was his way; a calm voice, a smile, positive words, and no matter what unconditional friendship. It was always clear Russ loved his family, friends, god, and his communtiy and we will miss him and his huge smile. Thank You Russ.
