I worked alongside Dorian in GRIT for about 6 months but on the other Team. We didnt have much to say to each other because we were always so busy. Being a Lieutenant with a lot of years I found myself observing Dorian and quickly realized this was a very professional and dedicated Policeman and stood a cut above others. He was quiet and reflective and obviously dedicated and focused. We talked once about working together on the same team and I was trying to arrange this with the F. B I. When he was taken serving the City of Gary and community which he loved. It has always been my regret that I couldnt have personally known him better. I hope to be seeing him again.

Dorian you are missed so much. I appreciate the guidance you have always given me and staying on my case. I am a police chief now and if it was not for you and others pushing me I would have not made it. You will always be missed. Every time I see your children I tell them how much of a great person you were.

Dorian was one of my best friends of my military career. This young man was extremely intelligent, dedicated loved to laugh and always left me with positive energy. I randomly started thinking about him several weeks ago to set up a reunion, I had no idea of the incident until today. I wish I would've have done a better job of keeping in touch. I will miss you my friend!

Love, peace and Blessings

Wow..a lot of emotions came back when i found this site. I first met Dorian in 94 at the academy. We were both accepted on the swat team together and conducted several dozen raids together. I still remember hearing on the news an officer has been shot in Gary. i arrived at the station and Tj looked at me and said they got Dorian. Those word will forever be burned into my mind. People can say all day how someone was such a good person.........but in this case it cant be more TRUE. His quiet demeanor masked his deep thinking. Situations that would make alot of men lose control were handled with true professionism. He always greeted me with a smile and I consider it a honer to have known and worked with him. He will forever be in my prayers.
Why the Lord took you i cant say. I can only guess he needed Dorian, the Marine, the Cop, to help gaurd the gates of heaven. miss you man, SEMPER FI

It has been over 10 years now and I still remember it like it was yesterday. All we wanted to do was to make a differnce and do Police Work. As I sit and reflect back and think of things we could have done different that night. Now your son is 10 years old and he is looking to make a difference just like you. He has written A Son's Regret: A Young Boy's Wish: This is in his words:

In June when most kid's are riding bikes and playing catch with their dad on Father's Day, my brother and I are laying flowers on my father's grave. A SON'S REGRET. How I wish my dad wouldn't have been the one chasing that drug dealer down that alley the night he became a "Fallen Officer." A YOUNG BOY'S WISH. Everytime I hear people talk and remember my dad and how fun he was and I try to remember and I can't. A SON'S REGRET. How I wish that guy who killed my dad would have chosen a life other than selling drugs. A YOUNG BOY'S WISH. How I hope not another boy has to grow up to be a man without ever knowing his fathers embrace, because of the illegal sales of drugs. SON'S REGRET. How I wash every person out there fighting to stay away from drugs and alcohol continues to be strong so we can live a safer and more peaceful tomorrow. A YOUNG BOY'S WISH.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Today, like most days, your name, you face and our memories come to my mind. I truly miss you. We had a very special relationship and I miss that. I just want you to know, that I miss you and I will never stop loving you. From the day we said "hello", to the day we said "good bye", we shared a love that no one can ever take away. I will never forget the time that we spent cooking together, running at the beach or going to the gym. You left a lasting impression. Todd always used to ask me "What did you do to that man?", the only thing that ever came to my mind was "loving you".
