Reflections for Technical Sergeant Robert Bruce Butler
5 years have passed and I still think about what happened that night. What could I have done, what could we all have done to prevent what happened. TAPS still brings tears to my eyes. TSgt Butler was my friend first and my Flight Chief second. I will never forget the sacrifice he paid. I still wish it would have been me instead of him. Rest in Peace and Defend those streets of gold for us, we'll join you there one day. Defensor Fortis

I was one of the lucky individuals to have had the opportunity to have met and have a wonderful friend such as Bob!
I met Bob when we were both Air Force Law Enforcement Specialist, stationed at our first base Sembach Airbase, West Germany.
Since the AF cop field was separated back then, we used to have fun and always dog the "Security Specialist" cops. It was only out of fun because it was only a rival thing you learned from tech school.
I will not forgot the very sad day in 1998 when I read in the paper he was shot and killed. I know the events that happened that night were not his fault and he was following procedures. He just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I will surely miss him very much. God bless his family.

I am honored to consider TSgt Butler one of my best friends. I rode patrol with him my first night of work. He struck me as someone who knew their job. From that first night on TSgt Butler and I became close friends. He would talk constantly about his family and how much he enjoyed them. Even today, more than a year after the incident I still tear up as I can still hear the call Police One is down.

I will never forget the very sad day I read in the San Diego Times Newspaper that TSgt Robert Butler was shot and killed. I knew Bob from earlier days in the Air Force when we were both stationed at Sembach Airbase in West Germany. We were both Law enforcements Specialists and I remember the fun we had making fun of our counter parts Security Specialists. He was a wonderful guy and dedicated cop who went by the back. I wish his family the very best and god bless.
