My brother Marine who I served with at Marine Corps Air Station, " MCAS " Beaufort SC from 1981 to 1984 and became a Sheriff Deputy after leaving the Corps was killed this month 23 years ago this month. He was an outstanding Marine and heavy equipment repairman in our maintenance shop. I remember good times as our Det B, FSSG softball team won as Base Champions, also played football on the bases intramural league. We had a big laugh while, as roommates in 84, we both had our eyes on a hot, female Sergeant from the admin section, I got turned down for a date, he got stood up by her on the same weekend, LOL. We also may have been involved in a 7 round barracks fist fight back in 1982," oppps, I'll call it a draw but he may have won a unanimous decision ".
I was very sad to here he had died, while on duty, he was an outstanding person, and by all accounts, an outstanding cop. He is missed.
To his family and fellow Law Enforcement Officers, My heart goes out to you.

I served with Joe Jones in the Marine Corps at MCAS Beaufort SC from 1981-84 as a mechanic. Very sad to hear about his tragic death today from a mutual friend from the same duty station, 2nd FSSG, Det B. My thoughts and prayers with all of Joes family and friends. I know he was a fine Marine and am sure he was a fine husband, father and peace officer.

I'm not sure if this is the same Joe Jones who I served with in the Marine Corps in SC from 1981-84. M y condolences either way, a very tragic loss to all who knew him. Please let me know if this police officer would be the same person.

It's hrad to believe that you are no longer here. Just this week a song played on the radio that reminded me of you. Little did I know that you were no longer here. I can think of the good times we had hanging out togethter. You were always a gentleman. I remember one particular night I was out with my cousin and how a guy was bothering me. You step up and told him to back off. Those of us that had a chance to meet and know you were bless. I will miss you and behalf of those marines who serve with you, we will greatly miss you, but we know that you are embrace in God's arm.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
