To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 45th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

My friend, my brother, though we have never meet I know that your family loved you as do I(extended family). You cannot be replaced, but we should model ourselves after you. Until we meet in the afterlife my friend.

Having been a lifelong resident in Alsip, grew up playing in Barnes Park. I was fortunate enough to become an Alsip Police Officer. I was also able to be in a position to initiate a memorial in our vestibule. Every day when we come to work we are privledged to see his image.During my research I was fortunate to find out what an incrediable man of integrity Captain Barnes was and how much he loved his job. I also found out that Captain Barnes left a wonderful legacy behind with his children. I can only hope that the Alsip Police Department's is built on the cornerstone of Captain Barnes' integrity and passion for the profession. God Bless Captain Barnes and his family for their ultimate sacrifice and selflessness. The Alsip Police Department will always try to live up to the good name Captain Barnes made for us. The memorial for Captain Barnes can be viewed at the following link. http://www.alsip.org.il/PD_Memorial.htm

Captain Barnes, thank you for your service. I grew up in Oak Lawn, so I know that 115th/Cicero is and always has been a busy, dangerous intersection. Just know that an "average Joe" citizen knows you're a true hero.
