I can't believe it has been almost 10 years! The job is harder without you. We try not to get discouraged like you never did but it's hard at times. I bring you with me on every call to remind myself to be alert and stay safe. We have some fine officers here doing great work but none are better than you were. God bless, RIP Pat.

Weep not for me
now that I have passed.
Remember the laughter, the affection, the joy
not just the recent tears.
Cherish the memories, our hopes and dreams.
Hold fast to the love that we shared.
Be happy with the time we spent together
and being anew.
For I am not really gone,
I am closer than ever before.
As the morning sun rises
and throughout the busy day...I am with you.
Until the setting sun disappears on the horizon
and we watch the day turn into night...I am here.
You may feel a faint breeze stir round your head, while you slumber
as I gently kiss your forehead, "Good night."
The stars that shine so brightly in my heavenly sky
help me watch over you and keep you from harm.
I am the wind in the trees
and the song of a bird.
I am moonbeams in a midnight sky
and a glorious rainbow after the storm.
I am morning dew
and freshly-fallen snow.
I am a butterfly flying overhead
and a puppy happily at play.
I am a smile on a stranger's face
a gentle touch
a warm embrace.
Listen to the wind for my message of love.
Watch the sun rise and set in the sky with me.
Feel my essence encircle you with warm memories.
Open your heart to know...I am not gone.
Reach deep into your soul...You will find me.
I am here.
Have no fear.
I am with you,
Always.

Sir, to be taken from us in the manner that you were by such a coward of a man is not only sad and tragic, it is infuriating! You are the true hero and as we all know, a hero never dies. Thank you for service and rest in peace. Until we meet again.

As a local Eatontown resident, Long Branch isnt far, and your story touched right at home. You touched many people. I never spoke to you, or met you. But you have served the people and tried your best to help the people one step at a time. I can only wish to have done as much as you have done. Like they say "All gave some...some give all" Best of wishes to the family. I cant even begin to imagine your pain.

I still have the mag covers you & a fellow Detective(ret.) graced-you played the good guy :-)
I still remember hearing the commotion over my friend's handheld-color draining from his face, then...running. less than 10 minutes later my phone rings-you're gone, but oh, Pat, NO ONE was going to let him get away with it. The loose end was, the coward did to himself what every one of your brothers & sisters wanted to PERSONALLY. Morally correct? Broad question. Denials? Silence....
Your family remains strong, ever moving forward in your name and honor. They shine and deserve regards and respect.
Know you are a role model and inspiration to so many entering law enforcement even to this day, as you will continue to be.
Missing you-

I had the honor of knowing and working with Detective Sgt. Patrick King for a number of year. I was working in neighboring West Long Branch the night that madman took his life. Sights and sounds of the night will live with me, as does Pat's memory, for as long as I live. Pat was a man that never looked down on anyone, yet everyone looked up to him, even the bad guys. If more Officers were of his caliber our profession would be more highly respected. Rest in God's arms my brother, you did your Job very well.

Detective King was the kind of man you would want your town to have there Police Dept. I rember that sad cold night in Nov of 1997 like it was yesterday. Pat King was a fine officer for the LBPD. In the day's after we as human's all mourned the loss of Long Branch's fellow officer. We moved on and today we are proud to call the Main Post office in Long Branch on third ave the Pat King Post office.

I grew up about 10 minutes from Long Branch. I was in college at the time of your death, pursuing my dream of becoming an LEO, and I remember the phone call I got from my family telling me that a local officer had been murdered. I just want you to know Sgt. King, that even though we have never met, I think about you and your sacrifice often. REST IN PEACE.

Pat- Life goes on, as it is almost seven years since your death, but you are never forgotten. You are talked about often and were probably the most respected officer this agency has ever seen. I wish that this department made it a requirement for every new recruit to read about your life, so that they may model themselves after you, both personally and professionally. I hope that I can achieve a fraction of the legacy that you left behind. "Every man dies, not every man really lives."

I remember you funeral like it was yesterday. It was the first funeral that I ever attended as a law enforcment officer. I did not know you well but I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and respect for you that day. Even people you arrested in the past were there to pay their respects.

I think of you when I do my job now. I try to respect people no matter what they are accussed of. I try to look out for my co-workers and people I am charged with protecting.

I know that you are missed in Long Branch and the whole law enforcement community still suffers because of your departure. You were truly a man among men.

May the Souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace."   Amen

I was there I the day you were laid to rest. You would have been proud. Me and more than 7,000 of your brothers and sisters closed Long Branch for the day. I worked with you once for a couple of hours, and you dropped everything to help me. Thank for that. May you rest in peace.

Sgt. Pat, not a day goes by without a prayer to you and your family. I miss the days that we played basketball together. We will play again...
