Reflections for Detective Sergeant Patrick A. King

I was working that night as a Patrol Sergeant in Point Pleasant Beach that night. I was deeply saddened and shocked how senseless his death was and how quickly horrible things can happen to Police officers. I hung an etching of the Sergeant’s name from the National Law Enforcement wall along with several other fallen heroes of NJ Law enforcement in our station. Condolences to his family.

Sorry Pat. I had your killer, he should have went to county (where he would have been identified and discovered he was wanted for another murder), but he was released on a summons. 26 years later I’m still pissed off. It never should have happened. The system let you down.

Det Sgt King. I had no knowledge of this tribute page for fallen officers. God bless you in heaven sir. We will be eternally linked in this tragic night as I am the Port Authority police officer who was shot at the bridge. We started our 26th year on 11/20/22. Continue soaring with the angels sir as your job is done here on earth. Never forgotten.

I am Pat's sister, Maureen. I have been reading the reflections that people have sent in, I am crying and it's been 23 years, hard to believe. I miss him so much. What is special to me is that everything that is said is so TRUE! I have said that the best way to describe my brother, Pat, is "HE IS A GOOD SOUL".
I LOVE AND MISS YOU, PAT. Love, Maureen

Twenty years ago today, you were murdered by a cowardly thug. I was a young patrolman serving in another NJ department at the time, and remember the incident as though it were yesterday.

I want Sgt. King's family & friends to know that he is not, & never will be, forgotten by his brothers & sisters who've worn the badge.

RIP, brother.

I will never forget Pat King. My family and I knew him well. My second husband, Anthony "Chip" Tallarico was also a police officer in Ocean Twp. who knew Pat. I can never not cry when I hear or see Pat's name. His family will always be in my heart. A wonderful officer and friend. R.I.P. Pat.

I was a college kid when you were murdered in West End and now I am your age when you died. Thank you for your service to Long Branch. You are a hero and you will never be forgotten. God Bless you and your family. Rest in Peace Sergeant King.

Uncle Pat,

Although I did not know you as well as you would have liked, I have followed in your footsteps. I have been an Officer now for 4 year years and enjoy every minute of it. Although the dangers are there I know that its worth it in the end. Thou for being a role model to live up to. RIP Uncle Pat.

"In Memory of Sgt. Pat King"
As we approach the fifteenth anniversary of the darkest day in Long Branch history, November 20th, 1997, let us take a moment in our busy schedules and think of Sgt. Pat King, badge 167. It’s hard to believe that so much time has passed since this senseless tragedy occurred. We all remember where we were when we found out; it seems like yesterday! Those of us who had the honor of working with him will never forget him. He was a highly decorated cop, one of our best street detectives, a mentor, a husband and father, with a great, dry sense of humor, but most of all, he was our friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children and family members.
Rest in peace Pat, you will always be missed!
