Officer Lazzaretto, thank you for the sacrifice you made for the residents of Glendale, California, and good, honest people everywhere. Thank you to your family for the loss they have endured. I hope you and your family know that you're not forgotten. Generations of new law enforcement are humbled and honored when they can read about you and your family and the dedication and sacrifice that was made. Whenever I walk past the memorial wall at BC and see your name on the wall I'll see your picture in my head and be grateful. Rest in Peace officer Lazzaretto

A true hero. Every article I have read about Officer Lazzaretto has mentioned that he was a wonderful and intelligent human being. I think it is awesome that his son now works for the Glendale Police Department.

Chuck,
Bless you for all you did for GPD and our community. With Andrew on GPD, we are again blessed by the Lazzaretto family on the department taking care of those in Glendale. This date is always remembered by those who were there that day 20 years ago.
Our prayers are with you and AnnaMaria. We also remember LAPD, and all they did for you and Art and all of us at GPD.

I graduated from the Academy a few weeks before your death. I remember watching the news of your heroic actions in entering the warehouse and it stuck with me throughout the years during the countless searches I've done myself. Just wanted to say you are never forgotten. This country lives on and moves forward from your service and courage. RIP.

I did not realize how significant that May 27th 1997 would be to me......but it changed my life. I am truly sorry for how it turned out. I did everything I could do to help.......but it was not in the cards ....you have a great family...I wish I could have known you.....I wish I could have met you before "may 27,1997"......

Chuck

As the yrs pass, it seems like yesterday we were at Glendale CC patrolling the campus together and on to Golden West K-9 for more fun.. You were truly a remarkable person and destined to serve the public. As we moved on in our paths, we still connected as brothers in law enforcement. I will always remember those who have made the ultimate sacrfice and and never to forget those we were fortunate to work with and know. I know you will always be in everyone's heart to those that you've touched. God speed my friend.. Jeff

I had the honor of becoming friends with Chuck in Officer Candidate School in the Marine Corps in 1988. He was a fantastic leader and wonderful person to be around. He was always calm and upbeat in even the most stressful of situations. He was funny, intelligent and a gentleman. I am grieving his loss and I extend my prayers to his family.

Brother,

As we approach that day in May once again, I find myself remembering once again. I left the department 6 years ago now, my last day being March 20, 2007. I guess I could never recover. I miss you, my brother in blue. One day I will see you again. We will suit up and work the district of Heaven one last shift. Bless you, Chuck.

Chuck is a good man who will always be remembered by those who had the privileged of knowing him. I knew him in high school, as did so many others. In fact I wasn't even among his close friends he interacted with daily, as we didn't share any classes, yet I considered him as a friend nonetheless, as did so many others in our school particularly in our year.

What struck me most was how gentle and good a person he was, that I was shocked to have found out what had happened to him, as I didn't even know he had become a police officer, although looking back the clues were all there. If ever there was a person who became a police officer for all the right reasons, it was Charles, that is one of the greatest things about him, he really could have become anything he wanted to be, yet he choose to serve our community in this way. In fact if he had never became a police officer and had died that same day, even of some "natural" cause, I would remember him all the same. That is why we need more police officers like Chuck and that is why I make it a point to let his story be known and will continue to do so all the rest of my days.

I pass the freeway sign in memory of Officer Lazzaretto several times a week. Today I was just thinking how many of us pass away with little left to speak of their time here. Officer Lazzaretto will long be remembered for his dedication to keeping society safe and the sacrifice he made on that date. Thank you Officer Lazzaretto and rest in peace.

I am so saddened to read this. From what I have read, he was an outstanding human being and left behind so many who loved him

Fifteen years sounds like a long time, but not to his family. I will pray for them.

Fifteen years is but a moment to those who knew and loved you Chuck. We will not let your memory and sacrifice pass from those who you left behind. I had the supreme honor of riding for the eighth time in the Police Unity Tour and completing it beside your father. Andy and Nan stood with us at the NLEOMF as we lit candles at the Vigil and our brothers and sisters from Chapter 37 gave them the respect they deserve. We will not them stand alone and will always watch over Matthew and Andrew as they mature into the type of men you would be proud of. Bless you, Brother

To most of us you are "LAZ." The day you passed is etched in our hearts and minds. It will be a day that many of us will never forget. I remember the day when several of us went for a bike ride in the mountains. What a blast we all had. We have so many fond memories - work and personal. You are greatly missed on Earth. Heaven has a very special Angel.

Chuck,

Tomorrow marks the 15th anniversary of your passing. I still remember the shock I felt when Kevin called and told me you were gone.

Your passing affected us all in ways you could never have known. Your influence on all of us was so subtle we didnt kow it until you were gone. Speaking for myself, I never recovered from the shock and the loss suffered that day.

I remember your service, standing with you, Javier to my right and Kevin behind me. We stood guard over you while all said their good bye's. Our Academy classmates were there in force; we closed the freeway for you; the fire department crossed ladders for you at the gate to the cemetary. The lawn at Forest Lawn was full. It was a touching and memorable service.

Your impact on our lives will never be forgotten. Thank you for being part of mine.

Rest in Peace, Brother.

As the 15th anniversary of Chuck's death approaches, I can still remember this horrible nightmare like it was yesterday. Time has not erased my memories... Chuck's unmistakeable voice, his gentle and jovial nature, his "can-do" spirit. Always in the hearts of the Glendale Police Department.
