Reflections for Trooper Andrew Patrick Winzenread

IT'S BEEN OVER 10 YEARS BUT SOMEDAYS IT WAS YESTERDAY TO ME. I WILL LOVE ANDREW FOREVER AND I JUST MISS EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM. HERE ARE SOME THINGS I MISS BUT PROBABLY NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD. HE USE TO MAKE ME TAPE THE SIMPSONS (VHS WAS ALL WE HAD BACK THEN) EVERY NIGHT THAT HE HAD TO WORK AND WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO TAPE OVER ANY PAST ONES BECAUSE HE LOVED THEM ALL. HE WOULD WET HIS TWO FINGERS AND PUT THEM ON MY GLASSES. HE ASKED ME FOR MONEY LIKE A LITTLE CHILD GETTING A NEW TOY BECAUSE IF HE HAD A DOLLAR IT WAS SPENT. HE LOVED AIRPLANE AND BOAT MODELS. HE ALWAYS NEEDED "JUST A 5 MIN. NAP" RIGHT BEFORE WE HAD TO LEAVE. HE LOVED VIDEO GAMES AND HE WOULD GET MAD AT THE CONTROLS LIKE T H E Y MESSED UP AND THROW THEM. HE ALWAYS WANTED ME TO MAKE HIM P B AND J AND AN GLASS OF CHOCOLATE MILK....CAUSE I MADE THEM BETTER THEN HE DID! THESE ARE THINGS I HAVE MISSED THAT I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD -I DON'T HAVE ROOM OR TIME TO TELL EVERYTHING I KNEW WOULD BE MISSED. HE WAS SO EASY FOR ME TO LOVE. HE WAS MY OTHER HALF -MY BEST FRIEND- HE LOVED ME BACK ....CINDY WINZENREAD

Andy,

I think of your death every year about this time. April 25th is my wedding anniversary. I even drove by the scene of your death as Paramedics were working to save your life. I was heading south for a turkey hunt and I prayed for you as I passed feeling helpless and sad. I never knew you but strangely enough feel a bond with you because of this. May God Bless your Soul and may he be with your wife and daughter.

Dear Andy,

No one involved with District 42, or the extended ISP family, that day ten years ago will ever forget where they were or what they were doing when they heard the news. A young man, always with a smile on his face, a new baby, a new home, with so much life yet to live...Life is sometimes hard to understand, but even though we do not know all the answers in this lifetime, we are promised that one day all things will be made clear. Just know that even though our lives go on, we will never forget you and the sacrifices you made. You and your family will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God. (Matthew 5:9)

I went to High School with Andy in Shelbyville,In. Andy and I were in the same graduating class. Class of '89...
I can't say that Andy and I were good friends or even close in school but we did have some of the same classes and some of the same friends. I remember Andy as being a kind spirited person. Having friends, helping others and basically just being the typical 17-18 year kid in school and cutting up and laughing and having a good time. No one can truly know at that time until we're a "little older" that those times are the best times of our lives. Being free, making friends, hanging out. I just wanted to leave a message for Andy saying that his spirit lives on and at each class reunion he is remembered. He will be missed by all who has graduated from Shelbyville High School, especially the class of 1989.

We will never forget Andrew Winzenread, or his great spirit. May god bless his family, his wife and his daughter for his spirit and a part of Andy will live forever through his precious daughter's eyes...

Our Greatest Fear
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again, I hold back a tear.
They patrol in the state, city, county and town,
in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.
The shape of their badges may vary,
but it’s a symbol that they all, proudly carry.
They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,
but some don’t come home, no matter how hard they try.
To uphold the law is the job that they pick,
with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?
They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,
after their lives have met tragic ends.
Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,
too many have been lost when gunshots ring out.
Our Heavenly Father has called them home,
no more these dark streets do they roam.
Through trial and error they have given their best,
please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
" Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again I hold back a tear.

It's hard to believe that it's been 8 years. Being the only deputy on 3rd shift at that time, Andy came to Franklin Co., which isn't in the Versailles post district, to assist me with calls on several occasions. Thanks for being there. Rest in peace.

Thank you for helping me that day. You didn't have to be there, but you were unselfishly. I am so sorry for what happened. It is hard to believe that it has almost been 8 years since the accident. Please know that I have still not forgotten you.

It has been some time since my buddies death but every time I walk into the post and see his picture I am sad.I went to recruit school with andy we were in the same squad. I have pictures of him in my scrap book.We polished our brass and shoes togethor every night to the dismay of my roommates.I cried like a baby at his funeral and had to sit in the basement of the church.Andy loved kids and sports and had a big heart he died doing a good deed I think thats how he would have wanted it

So much time has gone by Andy, and yet it seems as though you are still here. It's been nearly two years, yet you're still with each and everyone of us.

In the Simple Performance of Duty

In the simple performance of duty,
he pinned on a badge,
checked his gear with a practiced eye,
and kissed his loved ones good-bye.

In the simple performance of duty,
he reported for work,
joked with his buddies at roll call,
and made his last trip down the squadroom hall.

In the simple performance of duty,
he answered the call,
to help the helpless, to find the lost,
no matter the danger or how great the cost.

In the simple performance of duty,
he lay down his life,
for those in peril he tried to save,
our brave friend went to his grave.

In the simple performance of duty,
we honor his deed,
as we carry him to rest in a flag-draped casket,
long after the world has forgotten, we shall never forget.
Never judge or regret, what he did,
In the simple performance of duty

We never met, but I did lay a flower on your casket, I pass by that scene many times, and always pray your wife and child are able to understand, that being a Police Officer many times asks more then we think we can give. You have made those left behind just a little bit stronger, because you gave so much Thank You Andy

Hey Andy,
I had a great time pulling all those marijuana plants with you and "Squirrel". Sure do miss ya!

Sergeant Gandy Browning
Batesville Police Department

Every day I remember how fragile our lifes are. As i put on my uniform and accent it with my memorial bracelet of Andy, I can't help but to think of how things would have been, had our Savior not called Andy to stand guard in the house of the Lord. Andy brought smiles and warmth into the lifes of all of us, while never displaying a selfish or angry bone to anyone. Everybody from the Ripley County law enforcement family will forever hold a special place in their heart for the memories that were shared when we were blessed to have him with us. His family will always be in our prayers and thoughts, as we eagerly await the Spring to come upon us so we can once again come together with old and new friends to remember our fallen brother. Andy, you will always be missed and loved by your D-69 brothers!
