Reflections for Senior Officer Specialist Scott James Williams

Scott I never met or worked with you but I have met Kristy several times at CPL Conventions her courage and steadfast dignity are ever present and very well noted.

May God settle the scales of Justice and may you rest in peace brother.

Scott,

I remember my last night working with you in Oct. 1996. We both were in SHU and just got done getting the food trays off Tier 1. We sat on the steps and you told me how you looked forward to seeing your family and soon becoming a LT. I was leaving to join the Sheriff's Dept. I had huge respect for you and learned a lot on how to use words to calm a pissed off inmate. Big Mamma told us a joke and you laughed. I shook your hand for the last time and we finsihed out our shift with the others. I was at your funeral when and listened to Janet Reno speak of the hero you were! I think of you often and tell others about you when I get the chance. Slight in frame with a great laugh and well respected!

I have grown disgruntled at the lack of attention your killer has received in the judicial process. 13 years just passed since that night and he is still eligible to be released soon. I hope that liberal judge who ignored obvious facts and evidence that this man was competent to stand trial for his crime has retired. Even if this occurs, attention needs to be shown to the US Attorneys Office in LA to reopen this case. With each passing year, we miss you for all the life you lost with us. Your beautiful children have grown into young women without you. This is painful for us who knew what a proud daddy you would have been. Continue in peace brother in your place of Heavenly abode. We shall all join you and the hate of this world will be no more. I love you Scott!

I salute you for your bravery. I gave over 30 years to law enforcement and always admired those that worked in the prison system as being the bravest of the brave. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones. You have not been forgotten.

Scott,
I recently had the privilege of visiting the park that was made in your honor on the staff housing grounds. It brought back a flood of memories - some good, some bad. The bad of course was the night you gave your life, and the aftermath during the next few days, the lockdown, the inmates, the grief. Mostly the blood, though. How it dried and flaked up from the floor, the evidence markers strung out down the main corridor. I must have walked and ran by that blood a thousand times. I've never been able to get that image out of my mind. But there were good memories too - working out with the SORT team at the training center, running, the obstacle course, running, The Hill, more running, rappelling, shooting, and did I mention running? Then there was that damn Chevron hat! You loved that hat for some reason and were never without it no mater how much grief everyone gave you about it. I still have the Chevron hat that was made in your honor.

I left the BOP not long after that April day, but I've never forgotten you or the other staff at the New Rock. Your bravery and selflessness have always served as an example for me of the ultimate law enforcement officer. I can only hope to aspire to your level of commitment and sacrifice, and hope that in the end, I was worthy of having called you my friend.

Scott,
Another year has passed and another day of reflection is upon me. The day you died still haunts me today as I recall cleaning up the crime scene with Bob Hester. Seeing the tape of your murder and the days afterword will forever be etched in my heart. I know your in a better place now, but justice still must be served on Inmate Green. May god bless your wife and children during this most difficult time of the year for them. Rest in peace my fellow Lompoc brother, keep an eye of those of us that continue walking the corridors of crime and those of us that were lucky enough to have survived.

Scott,

From the time you first set foot in the Main Corridor, you carried yourself with dignity and integrity.

As a "Rookie," you adapted well to the craziness that we dealt with every day and matured into someone who could be trusted and depended regardless of the situation.

While I agree with the comments made by others, everyone needs to know the depth of dedication you displayed to your fellow Officers and the true courage you demonstrated on 3 April 1997.

While I was not present at the time you were attacked, I have spoken with many of those who were there and it is time that all who visit this site understand the true nature of your character.

Several of the Officers present and others who reviewed the video tape of the attack have told me that, after you were attacked by Inmate Roy Green, you, although mortally wounded, attempted to assist the Officers who were also being attacked by Green and that you continued your efforts until the severity of your wounds overwhelmed you.

It is appropriate, as a former Marine, that one of your last acts upon this earth was to demonstrate the living emulation of the Marine Corps motto; "Semper Fidelias", "Always Faithful".

Although you have gone to a better place, you shall always live within the hearts of all who have known you.

It was my honor to have know you.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 12th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace, Scott.

I hold your family in thought and prayer today. It is a travesty of justice that your murderer has not yet been tried. How this must embitter your family and agency.

Although I knew Scott for a mere few months before transferring from USP Lompoc, the morning I heard of his passing has "haunted" me for 11 years. I have worn the memorial braclet since I was able to get it, so not a day goes by that I don't remember losing a brother in the bureau. It is scratched but stays with me. Now we have lost another brother, Jose Rivera. Knowing that you all are watching over those of us left behind can bring some comfort. God Bless you Scott and Jose. God bless us all.

Kristy
Please know that you and your family are very much in my thoughts and prayers. We as a Bureau family are hurting with the loss of Officer Rivera, the memories of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice remain so very much alive. You know first hand the pain and I can only imgine that so many memories are flooding back during these days even more so then before. Each year during Correctional Officers Week, Each Union meeting, shift briefing, and each death of a correctional officer reminds us of Brother Scott's sacrifice. Justice WILL be served and your loss will NEVER be forgotten. I walk the blocks daily and know God allows us the greatest Angels to walk with us and watch over us. YOUR Bureau family loves you and will always be there for you and your family.

You guys might be gone but you, and the rest of my "Bureau Brothers," and the sacrafice you gave to your country, and your profession, will not be forgotten. Rest in Peace Brothers!

I didn't know Scott personally, but I was trained by plenty of his friends / co-workers from Lompoc. The kind of Officer and man he was is an insperation to all us Officers that have come after him. Rest Brother...One day Justice will be served, if not by a judge than by God!
