Daddy,
I miss you. I only wish you could have met my wonderful husband, Caleb, and your gorgeous, smart granddaughter, Stella...you would be so proud! I live my life everyday to make you proud. I am so grateful that you taught me how to love and share kindness. You were the greatest teacher I have ever had;I only hope that I can pay it forward the way you would want me to in my years to come as an English teacher. I miss you everyday and love you more than you would have ever known. Thank you for being my best friend.
Love always,
Your Baby Girl

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Tommy Bourne was a good friend of mine, at one time in my life I taught school and coached football. Tommy played on a team I coached, years later our paths crossed again. Tommy was a avid hunter and outdoorsman, loved his family and friends. I remember when Tommy made his mind up that he was going into law enforceent. Tommy stated that he wanted to make a difference, he wanted to do his part to protect young people from the destruction of drugs and alcohol and make his home county a better place to live. I think Tommy did make a difference, due to his death and J.P. Rutland another friend of mine, the State of MS passed a law that all law enforcement vechiles that transported prisoners were required to have a cage in the vechile. A big price to pay for such a law. Tommy you have made a diference.

Dear Tommy,
My cousin and my friend. Never a day passes that I don't think of your smiling face up there with my other dear and close angels in heaven. I know you are all having a blessed reunion with all our loved ones. Until we see you up there just keep rejoicing and enjoying each other. We know Heaven is big enough for us to come see everyone , So till we meet again. Have fun and keep them smiling.
We love and miss you all,
Myra Lee Daley
I remember Tommy for his smile and his way with children. I can see him and some of his friends running up and down the sidelines at PCS call out to our boys and encouraging them.
Tommy always had a kind word for all the players after the game. I was packing up some or Ron's things and found a notebook of where he had some of the articles about Tommy and were he had wrote a few words about what Tommy had meant to him little did we know only a few years later he would be joining Tommy in Heaven. My heart and prayers goes out to Pam and children and also to Mrs Louise only a mother can know the heartache that losing a child can bring no one can know this until you walk in their shoes. I know that God doesnt make mistakes and he only takes the best. May Our fallen Hero's rest in peace and know that we are proud of you.
