Your heroism and service is honored today, the thirteenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
I pray for the solace of all those who love and miss you. Both the pain and pride are forever.
Rest In Peace

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I remember attending your services when I was a new officer. I recall your wife asking one thing of everyone, that we never forgot your name. To this day I have never forgot. Thank you for your service and God Bless!

I was a deputy for the Barry Co. Sheriff's Department before coming to Springfield PD. Chris and both shared the same badge number #52. May God and Chris continue to watch all my brothers and sisters in law enforcement and especailly the Barry Co. Sheriff's Department. Keep us safe Chris.

I did not know Chris personally he was already gone 7 years when I started working there. Barry County Deputies were very proud of Chris and the job he did while he was there, and even after 7 years fallen, I overheard many conversations about Chris and what a wonderful man he was. Every day I worked there I was reminded of Chris and the sacrifice that he made because when I walked in the door his picture was there to remind me and everyone else of what a great man he was. To his family: God bless you and I am sure Chris is watching over you.

Chris, you are not forgotten. We still miss you, your wonderful sense of humor, your friendship and your extraordinary kindness.
One of the most gut-wretching moments in our lives was the phone call we received at 3:28 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning in 1996 telling us that you were gone.
Every Christmas we place four blue candles in our windows in rememberance of you and to let you know, wherever you may be, that we will never forget the ultimate sacrifice that you made in the line of duty.
You will reside safe, forever, in our hearts.

Deputy #52 was a man who loved the simple things in life like the countryside, biscuits and gravy, Elvis and John Wayne. He wore his badge proudly as he protected and served the people of his community. He should never be forgotten by the people whose lives he touched. May his memory always be kept alive. I will love you forever, Chris.

Chris was a very popular Deputy with the youth of the area, and was highly respected by them. He also had a great love for his family and job. I feel Chris gave his life the way he would of wanted to, serving the people. He is extremely missed by his friends, fellow officers and especially his family.
There is not a day goes by that I don't think of him. He not only was a co-worker but a friend. We will always remember his smile, his laugh and his jokes.
Chris, you will never be forgotten.

I am sure Chris was a very good Police officer and loving husband and father.......Even though i dont know him it still hurts me to see a police officer killed in the line of duty. I know one day I will be protecting the streets and will have to worry about this happening to me or to one of my friends....My grandfather was a Police officer and when he passed away 2 years ago i know the good lord just need another police officer to walk the beat on heavens streets.
