Mike was my neighbor and my friend. I remember the first day he arrived at Bryce Canyon and when he came over to introduce himself to me. I have never forgotten that day nor the many evening campfires we had with the other friends we made that summer at the park. Mike was so much fun to be with and he drew people to him with his charismatic personality.
I have thought of him often over the years and he will remain in my thoughts for years to come - till we meet again.

Mike,
I think of you all the time, from the time we first met at Park Ranger Training to celebrating our first season together at Acadia. Who would believe we lived in that old crappy single wide deemed acceptable seasonal housing. My understanding is the NPS condemned them the next year. You were and will always live in my heart and mind as the incredible man that you were. I am honored to say that I knew you and was able to share so many incredible adventures with you. I hope that you are able to rest in peace. Until we meet again I miss you old friend.

Mike its been 17 long years since you were taken from us brother. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of you and that day. But I said it 17 years ago and it holds true today- that one day the hurt will go away and we will be left with memories of the good times. Until we meet again my friend.

Mike,
It has been 14 years since you have left this place for a better one.It still feels like yesterday that we lost you.I will never forget all the special times we shared as kids growing up and they are some of my happiest childhood memories.I really wish things could be different and that we could share stories of our own children today. You were one of my best friends as kids and I only wish we could have been as close as adults and that is something I will always wish I had done differently.I love and miss you so much and hope to see and share great conversation with you again one day.You were definately a role model for young people and the accomplishments that can be made during youg adulthood-I know you made your parents proud.
Love your cousin,

To the Beaulieu family,
I often look at your memorial and remember that night in August so many years ago. Your spirit lives on for me in every young Ranger I train or mentor and I share your experience as a reminder that in our chosen profession, the unknown lurks around every corner. I am confident that your story has saved lives. I prefer to think about other times though, your "suggestion" that I try bull riding, our spirited debates about phone messages and the cleanliness of the kitchen and of course the stories from Acadia. We shared those good, bad and unusual expereinces that are unique to NPS seasonal rangers and have influenced who I am today.
For your Mom, Dad, Sister and Daughter, if they every glance at this memorial I just want you to know that we moved heaven and earth to find Mike that night. Everything that could have been done was and at the end he was surounded by people who cared for him. May God bless all of you.

When I first attented UMPI I remember seeing a picture of you in a patrol vehicle as a park ranger and reading the article on how you gave your life to your country as a park ranger. 5 years later I attended the seasonal ranger academy in NC. As I was packing to go to the academy I came across the U-Times article, I had somehow hung onto the paper that contained your article. The next three seasons I spent as a seasonal LE ranger I thought about you fairly often. I never knew you, but I heard many great things about you on the UMPI campus. I also knew that if you could loose your life working as an LE ranger that I could as well. Many times I thought of you and changed my own actions, potentially saving my life. Last week I read the article in the Star-herald, I am very glad to hear that your name is finally up on the Utah memorial wall. It was also nice to read that your Mom and Daughter were able to see this new plaque. May you rest in peace, and God bless your family.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I came across your name on one of the pages of the many heroes featured at this site and I wanted to stop at your page and leave a reflection. You have not been forgotten as heroes never die. I know that your loved ones think of you every day and the silent tears still fall even after 11 years. Some may feel that it feels just like yesterday that they saw your smile, heard your voice and felt your tender touch and for others it has felt like a life time ago. Continue to keep watch over all of your loved ones, come to them in their dreams so that they know you are near and watching over them. You have not been forgotten.

To the family and loved ones of Ranger Michael Beaulieu and his fellow rangers with the National Park Service:
On this the tenth anniversary of Michael's tragic death, I wanted to honor and remember him today. Michael's professionalism and dedication will never be forgotten, nor will his valor and courage.
In reading the reflections left by his friends and co-workers I can see that he was very well respected and is sorely missed. I hope that God is holding him in the sweetest part of his heart and the most gentle part of his soul.
I am so sorry that Michael was robbed of his life so tragically, but through his heroism and the profound sense of duty with which he lived his life, he made an immeasurable difference. May his spirit continue to soar and may his memory continue to inspire.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Michael gave to his community and the citizens of our country, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on August 26, 1996.
