One of the greatest people i ever knew. Miss him till this day

Thinking about you this week particularly as we honor all of the fallen police officers. After initially meeting Paul he became a part of our family. He was just a great person. If you knew him you were lucky. He loved photography and offered to take photos at my brothers wedding. He was afraid of spiders. He was hilarious. He was kind and thoughtful. He was selfless.
I did a ride along with him once and on a particularly intense domestic call I witnessed his steely-eyed professionalism. He was the kind of officer who made people who were skeptical of officers change their mind and become respecters of officers. He was the best friend to the community he served. He was a loving father to his daughter Melanie, who we got to see from time to time. She was everything to him.
He spent a lot of breaks at Rivergate Bonanza (that my mom managed) with fellow officers and he protected that place like it was his own.
We have never forgotten that awful day and we were not surprised at hearing the story. It was so like him to tell that criminal he wouldn’t shoot and kill him and to just come on out.
He talked all the time about retiring and moving back home and fishing.
I hope there’s fishing in heaven.
He meant a lot to our family. We will never forget.

Paul and I were roommates and friends at at Carolina Military Academy in 1967...we last saw each other at Ft. Jackson, in March of 1968. I have been trying to locate him ever since...I just found out about Paul’s death yesterday and have reached out to Melanie. Paul was a true hero, I miss his smile and friendly attitude, a great man..

Paul and I worked at East Patrol for several years. I was promoted to Sergeant. On the day of the event I was on my way to work. I heard on the radio that an officer was down and I was minutes from the scene. Along with several other officers, we rushed to the apartment. That day will be forever etched in my memory. I loved Paul like a brother. I miss him so much. When I think of him the tears are real. I realize he is in a much better place and I look forward someday to join him at the thin blue line table. So Paul save me a seat. Love ya man.

Paul, I remembered talking with you about you retiring you had plans In just a few years. But before you could go, your life was taken. I told myself then as soon as I turned 53 I was done. It has been 3 years since I retired. I just turned 56 today. I wonder what you would be doing today if you had lived. But I know your just fine in heaven.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 16th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
I pray for solace for all that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.
Rest In Peace.

Remember me Paul? I was the meat market manager at Riverside Piggly Wiggly where your daughter Melanie worked. I used to slice country hams for you. I was always entertained by your ready wit when you stopped by for a visit. RIP my friend.
