Reflections for Police Officer Michael R. Frey

Mike, it has been 13 years, but no matter how many years pass, you will never, ever be forgotten. In your life, you touched SO MANY people, and in your death, those people still honor your memory every day. Thank you for all you did to keep our town safe. I am sure you are keeping heaven safe, and knowing you, it's a blast up there! The only problem with this photo is you are wearing sunlglasses that hide that mischevious twinkle in those blue eyes of yours. We all miss that, but know that you're watching over us.

Dear Mike,
I'm sorry I never had the opportunity to know and work with you. I was hired in 1997 and have been going to your memorial mass ever since. I 've heard so many great things about you from friends you had on the job and others in the town. I always hear about what a jokester you were and how funny you made things on the job. Rest in peace.

I remember the day that Officer Frey was taken from his family and job that I'm sure he loved very much. I was on duty the day this tragedy happened and I remember everyone constantly waiting for updates on the situation as Eastchester was not far away from Yonkers where I worked.I attended Michael's funeral as did many brother and sister officers from many different departments. When one of us falls,we all fall because we are all one big family. To see the line of blue stretching as far as one can see is truly a touching sight.I am retired now, injured while on duty after being hit by a drunk driver, and came five feet from being killed I am told.I am thankful I was not taken from my family but I still miss doing the job I loved and the friends I made. I hope Marilyn and the rest of Mike's family are doing better and I wish them all the best. God Bless all Police Officers.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Mike,
I will always remember our days together at the NYC Transit Police. We were all so young and eager working the subways (TPF-3) right out of the academy. We had some great times catching bad guys then telling stories and socializing after our shift. You were always a stand up guy, a true leader who will never be forgotten. Rest well brother we’ll take it from here.

Officer Frey, thank you for your sacrifice. I remember that day like it was yesterday. At that time, I was a student just about to graduate from college in nearby Danbury, CT, and also about to begin a pursuing a career somewhere in the criminal justice field. It's odd how things happened, but I was actually considering law school. For some reason, your tragic loss steered me away from that idea (THANK YOU!)and I am now 10 years into a succesful law enforcement career.
Anyways, thank you again, and just wanted you to know that you are not forgotten!!!

Mike,
I just came upon this site by accident and saw this page. All the people who have left you reflections who did not even know you.. It is really touching to see how many people care. it has been nearly eleven years since that horrible day.. so much has changed in my life since then. it is incredible how time just goes by and takes with it the feelings and thoughts that you have from one place in your life to another.. I miss you mike and not a day goes by that I dont think about some of the crazy things we did.. you were one of a kind with that great sense of humor...You would not recognize the place anymore , all the new faces and changes. there are only about 15 of us who are still on the job from that day. Rest in peace my friend you will be forever 29 years old, young and handsome with that silly smirk..god has ways of healing and lets us go on.. But I will never forget you.

To Michael Frey and his loved ones:
On this the tenth anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.
My heart goes out to your family. You’re in our thoughts and our prayers.
Officer Frey, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.
This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.
Rest in Peace, Officer Frey. I am humbled by your valor, courage, and dedication.

Michael it seems like just yesterday we were joking about our upcoming 30th birthdays. Although I had not seen you in 12+ years it seemed as though time had not passed at all and we were still kids at ICS. I remember that night and the conversation we had and I feel God let us see each other one more time as a gift before you were snatched away. I treasure that memory. You will never be forgotten. I know you are smiling down and watching over us all. Rest In Peace my brother, my friend...

You have not been forgotten in the many years you have been away from your family and many friends. May you never be forgotten. May you always look down on your brothers and sisters of the Eastchester Police Department. I know in some way you are guiding them all to safety and you are helping to protect them.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer. Today, March 21, 2003 we dedicated the shift to the memory of P.O. Michael Frey who died on this date years ago.
When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.
