Brian I never met you, but you and I grew up in the same town in the same area 9 years apart. We both were members of the same church. We went to the same schools in St Cloud. We both graduated from Apollo High School. We both got our LE degrees at the same school. We both were hired for our first law enforcement jobs in small towns in central MN. The man that was kidnapped at gunpoint is a dear friend of mine that has cut my hair for the past 45 years. Your story and the story of my barber both were featured on the front page of the St Cloud Times today. The man that shot you was killed by a Deputy Sheriff that night. The other two suspects were convicted of 1st degree murder of a police officer and will never see the light of day. After your death the people of the State of MN and Law Enforcement Officers from across the country did everything they could to help your wife and daughter. I remember the day of your funeral. I was then a Wright County Deputy Sheriff working patrol. I volunteered to assist Stearns County and take calls for service in the eastern part of the county so all the Stearns County deputies could go to your funeral. I remember being parked on the overpass at I94 in St Augusta watching hundreds of squad cars headed westbound....I will never for get that.

I remember you as a St. Joesph police officer when I was a student at St. John's University. You were always friendly with a smile on your face. You made an outsider from the Chicago inner-city feel welcome and home in central Minnesota. Although we never became acquaintances, I felt like I lost a friend.

Officer Klinefelter although we never met I have been blessed to learn of you through a touching gesture towards my department in your honor. For the past 2 years on this date an annonymous woman has entered our station arms filled with pastries and other treats along with a card thanking us for our service in honor of your memory. I have been working on both occasions and yet have not had the opportunity to meet this kind woman. RIP sir you have left your mark.

Brian, your legacy lives on. Our local officers wear duty gear provided by your wife and brothers' store, KEEPRS. Today in Athens, Georgia we're thinking about your sacrifice on this day 19 years ago.

Was there in Sauk Rapids that night remember that call that night. Cold and yet the idea of catching these killers was only thing on my mind. Brian was great to know you. Although short we had some great times during training and off time. Remember you at dwi training with your Wendy about ready to have Katelyn. Gave to a hard time because you couldn't sit still.

It has been many years now since that terrible night and your daughter is grown. I saw her on Fox 9 tonight and it made me cry. You were there for my daughter when you were assigned to her case at St. Bens in the weeks just before. We were is such distress and you came along and assured us you would handle things and we should not worry. We believed in you and how you made us feel. You were amazing! When we heard of the boys, the robbery, and their devastating shots to you, we were in shock. Why and how could they take the life of one so dedicated to doing good for us? You have never left my heart. I think of you often and am so greatful tonight to have found a way to leave you a message. My hope is that your daughter can see this and know how important you were in the lives of those you served. You were my hero;you still are! Nothing more ever happened in my daughter's case. We were terrified, but even in your passing, you continued to watch over her! I believe that with my entire belief system. May you find a way to let your daughter know that you never really left her side and that you have been watching over her in the same way ever since. God bless you for being there for us!

Brian- I never had the opportunity to meet you. You were called home 17 years ago today. As a Prosecutor and former cop, I honor your service and sacrifice. Please know that you have not been forgotten. I’m sure your greatest concern was always your family. Your brothers in blue have not forgotten them, or you. Our daughters are classmates, and have been teammates in the past. Katelyn is a great kid and I know you are proud of her. Rest easy- your family is safe, well and in good hands. We’ll keep the watch.

I was a citizen of your town, protected by you on that cold January night. So many memories fade, as we age, but your name stays permanently etched in my thoughts, because you are a hero, and you had a profound and lasting affect on our lives. Thank you, Officer Klinefelter. And to all of you, out there, protecting and serving, thank you, and Godspeed.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 15th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
