Reflections for Auxiliary Police Officer Glenn Truman Wortham

So, the suspect stabbed one man and killed you and was released. Another man was on the bench who didn't deserve to be.

An Auxiliary cop is one of the most under appreciated people in law enforcement, but despite the lack of pay and benefits, you're out there right along side the regular cops doing the job. Sadly there are times when it can cost someone his/her life, just like the regular cops. Officer Wortham, you gave your all and I thank you for your efforts. You are a hero.

God Bless and Rest in Peace.

To Carl Wortham and family...it has been an honor to have been invited and included to view those very special reflections. It is obvious that your family is doing everything possible to ensure that memory of your father does not fade away...I was particularly touched about your wife's illness and more importantly the strength and courage she has shown throughout this long battle...I am glad to see that were able to fulfill her three wishes...you may not even yet realize the magnitude of the impact fulfilling those wishes will have on her, you and your family...but one day you will...Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family...congratulations on completing 36 years in law enforcement...take good care of yourself and your family...stay safe.

Uncle Truman,
Over the years I have thought of you often, and every memory I hold of you is of love and admiration. The summer of 1963 when I lived with you, Aunt Vina, Carl and Sharon was pivotal in my life. In retrospect I realize that "taking me in" was a burden you really didn't need--financially and otherwise, but nevertheless, you did. You treated me as one of your own kids and I admired your easy-going nature and your love of your family and the Lord. Thanks for guiding me to Jesus, and for being a role model for me to emulate. This year marks my 25th year of being a technical reserve with the Douglas County Sheriff Department, and I'd like to think that your influence on me has impacted thousands of kids I've worked with through the Dept.
You are a hero! See you again someday,
Love,
Nephew Jimmy

Dad, as the holidays pass I continue think of how much you enjoyed being with family during those times and how much you are missed. I wanted you to know that my wife Val only has a few months before she will be joining you. She has been fighting cancer for 7 years and it has come to the point where the fight will end soon. She wanted threes wishes while she was still able to enjoy them. First a Cruise, then a Christmas will all the family and last to go back to Maui. We went on the Cruise in May and she loved it. Christmas was the best ever, Mom, the boys, the grandchildren, Sis and all the family members that were able to make the trip came. We had over 30 family members here, the smile never left her face. We just got back from Maui with Sis and Rick. It was a wonderful trip even though she had to use a wheel chair and walker, we did almost everything there was to do. She made the rest of us look like wimps. She is another of my heroes, she never complains and only gets sad on rare occasions. Her faith is strong and she has accepted her fate. Take care of her, she admires you so much even though you have never meet and help me understand why. I know you will enjoy her, she has a lot of the strong traits as you and truly loves football.

Dear Wortham family:

Thank you for the kind words you left on my husband's site.

I wanted to take a moment to reach out to you and tell you that your family is in my thoughts and prayers as you begin another New Year without your loved one. Please know that he is not forgotten.

Thank you, Officer Wortham, for your service and sacrifice. May God bless you and may you rest in peace, Blue Angel.

Officer Wortman, I wanted to stop in and leave a reflection to let you know that you have not been forgotten. I have decorated the exterior of my home with Blue Lights for the holdiays, one of those lights is out there in your honor and will be lit every night from now until New Years. I was just a rookie when you were called away, but my heart goes out to you and your family.

Mrs. Loya, Thank you for the very moving reflection. It took a long time for our family understand that Dad would not want us to dwell on grief, but instead reflect on the life that he lead. Our fallen hero's were and still are, role models for others to follow. They stand for all things that are good and honorable so that we may pass those standards on for generations to come. My son's and grandchildren know of the honor he and the fellow heros stood for. They will never be forgotten.

Bless you and your family.

To the family and friends of Officer Glenn Truman Wortham and his fellow officers with the Tulsa Police Department:

On this the thirty second anniversary year of his untimely death, please know that Officer Wortham is not forgotten.

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when he was tragically killed. I am sure that he is proud that his son followed in his footsteps.

May you continue to be comforted by the caring and support of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. I commend you as you reach out to others just beginning this awful journey. It is inspiring and gives others hope that we too will get through this... not over it, but through it.

Our family grieves with you and for you. Officer Wortham's valor and dedication is not forgotten.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service he gave to his community and the citizens of Oklahoma and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 15, 1973.

Sir,
You are a true HERO. You did what most people would run from. You did it not out of pay, but out of a desire to help you fellow man. I know Thank you is not enough, but until I can meet you in the Lord's presence and tell you in person, Thank You.

HEROS LIVE FOREVER..

I will continue to pray for your family.

Ms. Rittenhouse, Thank you reflection. To become a family member because of such a great loose is hard to understand, but the love and support we get from others who have joined this family helps explain why so many dedicate themselves such a special group. When Matt told you "I'll be ok" he understood that no matter what he would be there for you and yours. I feel Dad's hand on our family daily as you will with Matt. God bless you and your family and continue to stand tall.

Dear Officer Wortham,
Your family left a relection on my son's page and I am trying to repay the honor and gratitude back that they gave to us. Matthew is and was the light of our lives as I can tell you are to your family. The Brotherhood of Law Enforcement is in a word amazing. I knew my son loved waht he did but I never thought he would lose his life doing it. Mainly because he always said, "Mom, I'll be ok." And I believed him. From now until we are reunited with him in eternity we will honor him and his profession and all that walk the same walk--his brotherhood in blue. God bless you and your family and your sacrifice for all of us.
Love,

Although I never met you, I suppose I would call you "Grandpa" if you were still here. I want to thank you for saving your grandson's (my husband's)life on February 14, 2004 around 4 a.m. The hour was late and the day was long. Just as he was about to hit a cement railing, you nudged him awake making him whip the steering wheel to the left. If you hadn't done that, he'd be in heaven with you now. You would be proud of your grandson. He is a wonderful man, fabulous husband and loving father. Traits that you passed on to your son, Carl, and he, in turn, to John. You would be proud of your great-grandsons too. They both have parts of you in their personalities. Mitch is caring and considerate and Garrison is tough as nails and not afraid of anything. Thank you, Grandpa, for the greatest gifts I've ever received -- my husband and my sons. ~Michelle~

Sir,

You were obviously a loved man. The outpouring from your family is heart wrenching. I did not know you, nor will I ever meet your family. Sir....you are MY family. I can only offer them my support and prayers. I only ask that you watch my back with a keen eye and a hand on your gun.

Bear,
It seems like only yesterday we made that call together that ended your life. I've never forgotten you as a partner or forgotten the love you always showed Carl. Thirty-one years later you're still my partner when I take a 10-8. Not gone and never forgotten.

Well, the day has finally come. I'm taking the big step and retiring this week. It's been a great and fast 36 years. I own all my success to you. Being the kind of Dad that most sons would wish for, an outstanding role model, Christian Leader, successful business man, community volunteer, and most of all a loving father and husband. I've been offered a position with a company that will be exciting and rewarding. So many memories and friendship over the years, there is not a greater calling than being a Law Enforcement Officer. Thanks for watching over all of us.

All my Love and Respect.

Your Son

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

I was only a tiny baby when Officer Wortham was killed, but I appreciate his service to his community and our great Nation. I am so glad the Wortham family has kept his spirit alive on this website.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

...Gone, but never Forgotten....
